James McNab
James McNab was the first settler in Norval, Ontario, originally called "McNab's Mills" McNab was an acting Lance Sergeant at the Battle of Queenston Heights during the War of 1812. He transferred to Captain John Powell's Provincial Artillery and had the rank of "Gunner" which was equivalent to the rank of Lieutenant. This matches his self-reported rank and history in the military as given in his Upper Canada Land Grant application. McNab was not a United Empire Loyalist, since they were veterans of the American Revolution, but as a veteran of the War of 1812, he was similarly entitled to a grant of land. He was born in Barnet, Caledonia County, Vermont on 9 July 1787. He arrived from Vermont about 1805 and from 1812 to 1819 lived in Toronto where he later married his wife, Sarah Marsh. Sandy McNab
Alexander McNab (27 December 1911 – 12 September 1962) was a Scottish footballer. Although not seen as one of the most important members of the squad in his time at Sunderland, he had a role in two of their greatest successes: he was on the pitch for the league championship clincher in 1936, and replaced injured captain Alex Hastings in the 1937 FA Cup Final. He also won the 1936 FA Charity Shield. In 1938, McNab joined West Bromwich Albion for a fee of £7,000 but war intervened and he went to various clubs on loan including Nottingham Forest, Northampton Town and Walsall. He eventually signed for Newport County in 1946. Robert McNab
Robert McNab (1 October 1864 – 3 February 1917) was a New Zealand lawyer, farmer, historian, and politician of the Liberal Party. He was Minister of Justice for the 18 months before his death. Early life McNab was born in 1864 at Dunragget farm near Invercargill. His parents were Janet and Alexander McNab, a runholder. His father represented the Murihiku electorate on the Otago Provincial Council (1858–1861), and the Cambelltown electorate on the Southland Provincial Council (1861–1865), and was for short periods on the Southland Executive Council and the council's Speaker. Robert McNab received his education from Invercargill District High School and the University of Otago, from where he graduated with a BA in 1893, an MA in mathematics and mathematical physics in 1885, and LLB in 1891. Peter Maxwell McNab (May 8, 1952 – November 6, 2022) was a Canadian-born American professional ice hockey player. He played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1973 to 1987, with the Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, and New Jersey Devils. He later served as the color commentator for the Colorado Avalanche from their inaugural 1995–96 season until his death. Max McNab
Maxwell Douglas McNab (June 21, 1924 – September 2, 2007) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player, coach, and National Hockey League (NHL) general manager. He played in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings between 1947 and 1951, winning the Stanley Cup with them in 1950. The rest of his playing career, which lasted from 1945 to 1959, was spent in various minor leagues. McNab's coaching and management career included stints as the general manager of the Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils between 1976 and 1987.
