Mabel Blythe
Mabel Josephine Blythe (28 March 1930–27 December 2004: මේබල් බ්ලයිත්) was an actress and singer in Sri Lankan cinema. One of the earliest pillars in Sinhala cinema, she acted in several popular films as well as worked as a playback singer. Personal life Blythe was born on 28 March 1930 in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka as the second child of the family. Her father John Blythe was a Burgher physician. Her mother was from upcountry with the initials 'Kumarihamy'. The couple got married amid protests on both sides. She was educated at the Good Shepherd Convent in Nuwara Eliya and the Good Shepherd's Convent in Kandy in English Medium. At the age of sixteen, she took Senior Certificate. She has two sisters and two brothers. Kadawunu Poronduwa
''Kadawunu Poronduwa'' ( Sinhala: ''කඩවුනු පොරොන්දුව'', "The Broken Promise") was the first film to be made in the Sinhala language; it is generally considered to have heralded the coming of Sinhala Cinema. The film was produced and filmed in India however, and was highly influenced by South Indian melodrama. It was first shown on January 21, 1947 at the Kingsley Cinema in Colombo, Sri Lanka. A remake was released in 1982. Plot Ralahamy, a member of high status, dies leaving his family in debt after having squandered his fortune through extensive drinking and other vices. To get back into wealth, Ralahamy's wife Tackla pushes her daughter Ranjani to marry a wealthy older man Victor with a child through an earlier marriage. ''Kadawunu Poronduwa'' is a 1982 Sinhala drama film directed by Roy de Silva and produced by his wife Sumana Amarasinghe. It is a remake of the first Sinhala film ''Kadawunu Poronduwa''. The film stars Vijaya Kumaratunga and Sumana Amarasinghe in lead roles whereas Eddie Jayamanne, Joe Abeywickrama and Ruby de Mel in suppiortive roles. It also marks the film debut of comedian Sunil Hettiarachchi as well as final appearance of Eddie Jayamanne in cinema. Reception The film received generally positive reviews and was the most popular film of 1982 in Sri Lanka. For the latter accomplishment, it was presented with a presidential award. Joseph Panimayadas Chandrababu Rodriguez (1927–1974) was an Indian actor, comedian, director, singer and dancer, whose Chaplinesque-style on-screen movements and singing style made him popular from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. He had a mastery of the Madras Bashai, a dialect unique to the Madras region. His slapstick style of comedy has been emulated by subsequent actors. Many of his songs have remained popular. Early life Chandrababu was born to a wealthy and eminent Christian Paravar family in 1927 at Tuticorin, India. MG Ramachandran
Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran (17 January 1917 24 December 1987), also popularly known as M.G.R., was an Indian politician, actor, philanthropist, and filmmaker who served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1977 until his death in 1987. He was the AIADMK's founder and J. Jayalalithaa's mentor. On 19 March 1988, M.G.R. was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. In his youth, M.G.R. and his elder brother M. G. Chakrapani became members of a drama troupe to support their family. Influenced by Gandhian ideals, M.G.R. joined the Indian National Congress.
