Diospyros
''Diospyros'' is a genus of over 700 species of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs. The majority are native to the tropics, with only a few species extending into temperate regions. Individual species valued for their hard, heavy, dark timber, are commonly known as ebony trees, while others are valued for their fruit and known as persimmon trees. Some are useful as ornamentals and many are of local ecological importance. Species of this genus are generally dioecious, with separate male and female plants. Taxonomy and etymology The generic name ''Diospyros'' comes from a Latin name for the Caucasian persimmon ('' D. lotus''), derived from the Greek διόσπυρος : dióspyros, from ''diós'' () and ''pyrós'' (). The Greek name literally means "Zeus's wheat" but more generally intends "divine food" or "divine fruit". Muddled translations sometimes give rise to curious and inappropriate interpretations such as " God's pear" and " Jove's fire". The genus is a large one a ...

Xuyi County
Xuyi County () is under the administration of Huai'an, Jiangsu province, China. The southernmost of Huai'an's county-level divisions, it borders the prefecture-level cities of Suqian to the north and Chuzhou (Anhui) to the south and west. Xuyi is noted for production of crayfish. Etymology The meaning of Xuyi is debatable, and there are two major accounts. For one: sited on the top of a hill, the ancient city afforded an extensive view of the vicinity. In the ancient Chinese, "xu" means have one's eyes opened wide, while "yu" means look straight ahead. Thus, it was named after Xuyi, the posture of looking out. For another, it was named after Xuyi, an eastern hill outside the city. History This county was previously administered by Anhui province. When the ancient city of Sizhou whelmed in the Hongze Lake, its seat was transferred to the county in 1680 and then to the current seat of Si County in 1777. For the sake of managing the Hongze Lake, Xuyi was annexed to Jiangsu i ...

Maba People
The Maba, Burgu or Bargo people are a minority ethnic group found primarily in the mountainous Ouaddaï region of eastern Chad and adjacent areas of Sudan. Their population is estimated to be about 300,000 in Chad. Other estimates place the total number of Burgu people in Sudan to be about 700,000. The Burgu today primarily adhere to Islam, following the Maliki Sunni denomination. They supported the Sultans of Abeche and the Sudanic kingdoms, who spoke their language. Little is certain about their history before the 17th century. They are noted as having helped expel the Christian Tunjur dynasty and installed an Islamic dynasty in their region in the early 17th-century. Their homelands lie in the path of caravan routes that connect the Sahel and West Africa with the Middle East. The Burgu people are an African people. They are traditionally pastoral and farmers who are clan-oriented. The Bargo people have also been referred to as the Wadai, a derivative of Ouaddaï. They speak Maba ...

Maba Man
Maba Man () is a pre-modern hominin whose remains were discovered in 1958 in caves near the town called Maba, near Shaoguan city in the north part of Guangdong province, China.''Wu R. K.'' et ''Pang R.-C.'' Fossil human skull of early Paleoanthropic stage found at Mapa, Shaoquan, Kwantung Province. Vertebrata PalAsiatica, 1959, t.3, №1, pp.176-182. Characteristics Farmers found an ancient Maba cranium in 1958, near a Chinese village named Maba. Maba Man was labeled an intermediate in form between ''Homo erectus'' and '' H. sapiens''; the remains are referred by many authorities to archaic ''H. sapiens'' or to an Asian extension of ''H. heidelbergensis''. As the scientists did more research on the Maba cranium, they found that the fossils consisted of a skull cap and parts of the right upper face, with parts of the nose also still attached. The scientists saw a connection with ''Homo erectus'' because the brow ridges were pronounced, forming an arch over each eye and the bone ...
