Maaske Dome () is an icecapped, dome-like elevation long, rising above the northern part of the California Plateau in Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos in 1960–63, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Lieutenant Gary L. California Plateau () is an undulating ice-covered plateau, long and from wide, which rises to at the eastern side of Scott Glacier. The plateau reaches a maximum height of in Mount Blackburn at the southern end. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (ACAN or US-ACAN) is an advisory committee of the United States Board on Geographic Names responsible for recommending commemorative names for features in Antarctica. History The committee was established in 1943 as the Special Committee on Antarctic Names (SCAN). It became the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in 1947. Fred G. Alberts was Secretary of the Committee from 1949 to 1980. By 1959, a structured nomenclature was reached, allowing for further exploration, structured mapping of the region and a unique naming system. A 1990 ACAN gazeeter of Antarctica listed 16,000 names.
