Maachis
''Maachis'' (transl. ''Matchsticks'') is a 1996 Indian period political thriller film directed by Gulzar and produced by R. V. Pandit. It stars Chandrachur Singh, Om Puri, Tabu, and Jimmy Sheirgill. The film portrays the circumstances surrounding the rise of the Sikh insurgency in Punjab in the 1980s. The music of the film was composed by Vishal Bhardwaj, with lyrics penned by Gulzar. It was also the Hindi film debut of KK as a playback singer. The title of the film ''Maachis'' is a metaphor that conveys that any nation's youth are like matchsticks, which can be used to light a lamp or a fuse that will blow a dynamite. 42nd Filmfare Awards
The 42nd Filmfare Awards were held on 23 February 1997, in Mumbai, India. '' Khamoshi: The Musical'' led the ceremony with 13 nominations, followed by ''Maachis'' and ''Raja Hindustani'' with 10 nominations. Jimmy Sheirgill (born Jasjit Singh Gill; 3 December 1970), also credited as Jimmy Shergill, is an Indian actor and film producer who works in Hindi and Punjabi films. Chandrachur Singh
Chandrachur Singh (born 11 October 1968) is an Indian actor, who mainly works in Hindi cinema. He is the recipient of a Filmfare Award, in addition to receiving nomination for an International Indian Film Academy Awards, IIFA Award and a Screen Award. Early life and career Singh attended the all-boys boarding school The Doon School in Dehradun, and then went to St. Stephen's College, Delhi, St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi. Vishal Bhardwaj
Vishal Bhardwaj (born 4 August 1965) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, producer, music composer and playback singer. He is known for his work in Hindi cinema, and is the recipient of seven National Film Awards and a Filmfare Award.
