MX (band)
MX is a Brazilian thrash metal band formed in São Paulo in the early 1980s. Its name comes from the American ICBM MX missile. Mx was one of the most important bands from the Brazilian thrash metal scene during the late 1980s. The band's sound is closer to the Bay Area thrash scene than the Brazilian scene, although many of the vocals were death metal grunts. However, some of its later work was fitting as post-thrash. MX was the opening act in Brazil for Testament in 1989 and Exodus in 1997. The band released two studio albums during its heyday, ''Simoniacal'' in 1988 and ''Mental Slavery'' in 1990, on the defunct label Fucker. Shortly after the release of ''Mental Slavery'', the band split up, but reformed in 1997, releasing the EP ''Again Again may refer to: Entertainment * ''Again'' (video game), a 2009 adventure game for the Nintendo DS * '' Again!!'' manga * ''Again!'', a 2011 children's book by Emily Gravett * ''Again'' (film), a 2015 Japanese film Music * A ...

Systemd
systemd is a software suite that provides an array of system components for Linux operating systems. Its main aim is to unify service configuration and behavior across Linux distributions; Its primary component is a "system and service manager"—an init system used to bootstrap user space and manage user processes. It also provides replacements for various daemons and utilities, including device management, login management, network connection management, and event logging. The name ''systemd'' adheres to the Unix convention of naming daemons by appending the letter ''d''. It also plays on the term "System D", which refers to a person's ability to adapt quickly and improvise to solve problems. Since 2015, the majority of Linux distributions have adopted systemd, having replaced other init systems such as SysV init. It has been praised by developers and users of distributions that adopted it for providing a stable, fast out-of-the-box solution for issues that had existed i ...

Letter Beacon
Letter beacons are radio transmissions of uncertain origin and unknown purpose, consisting of only a single repeating Morse code letter. They have been classified into a number of groups according to transmission code and frequency, and it is supposed that the source for most of them is Russia and began during the Soviet Union. (Some beacons sending Morse code letters are well known directional or non-directional beacons for radio navigation. These are not discussed in this article.) Letter beacons have been referred to as: * SLB, or "Single Letter Beacons" * SLHFB, or "Single Letter High Frequency Beacons" * SLHFM, or "Single Letter High Frequency Markers" * Cluster beacons * MX — an ENIGMA''E.N.I.G.M.A.'' stands for "European Numbers Information Gathering and Monitoring Association". It was a unique association of radio listeners based in the United Kingdom and active during the 1990s. They issued a printed bulletin every few months, which was mailed to subscribers. All 18 is ...

Organochloride
An organochloride, organochlorine compound, chlorocarbon, or chlorinated hydrocarbon is an organic compound containing at least one covalent bond, covalently bonded atom of chlorine. The chloroalkane class (alkanes with one or more hydrogens substituted by chlorine) provides common examples. The wide structural variety and divergent chemical properties of organochlorides lead to a broad range of names, applications, and properties. Organochlorine compounds have wide use in many applications, though some are of profound environmental concern, with 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzodioxin, TCDD being one of the most notorious. Physical and chemical properties Chlorination reaction, Chlorination modifies the physical properties of hydrocarbons in several ways. These compounds are typically denser than water due to the higher atomic weight of chlorine versus hydrogen. Aliphatic organochlorides are often alkylating agents as chlorine can act as a leaving group, which can result in cellular dam ...

Mutagen X
Mutagen X (MX), or 3-chloro-4-(dichloromethyl)-5-hydroxy-5''H''-furan-2-one, is a byproduct of the disinfection of water by chlorination. MX is produced by reaction of chlorine with natural humic acids. MX is found in chlorinated drinking water all over the world and is an environmental carcinogen that is known to cause several types of cancer in rats when present in large enough concentrations. It is listed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as a group 2B carcinogen meaning it is "possibly carcinogenic to humans". Although the concentration of MX in drinking water is typically 100- to 1000-fold lower than other common byproducts of water chlorination such as trihalomethane In chemistry, trihalomethanes (THMs) are chemical compounds in which three of the four hydrogen atoms of methane () are replaced by halogen atoms. Many trihalomethanes find uses in industry as solvents or refrigerants. THMs are also environmenta ...s, MX might play a role in the increase ...

Murexide
Murexide (NH4C8H4N5O6, or C8H5N5O6·NH3), also called ammonium purpurate or MX, is the ammonium salt of purpuric acid. It is a purple solid that is soluble in water. The compound was once used as an indicator reagent. Aqueous solutions are yellow at low pH, reddish-purple in weakly acidic solutions, and blue-purple in alkaline solutions. Preparation Murexide is prepared by treating alloxantin with ammonia to 100 °C, or by treating uramil (5-aminobarbituric acid) with mercury oxide. It may also be prepared by digesting alloxan with alcoholic ammonia. History Justus von Liebig and Friedrich Wöhler in Giessen, Germany, had investigated the purple product, murexide, obtained from snake excrement in the 1830s, but this was not an abundant raw material, and a method of using it as a dyestuff was not established at that time. In the 1850s, French colourists and dye-producers, such as Depoully in Paris, succeeded in making murexide from abundant South American guano and of ...

Maxwell (unit)
The maxwell (symbol: Mx) is the CGS (centimetre–gram–second) unit of magnetic flux (). History The unit name honours James Clerk Maxwell, who presented a unified theory of electromagnetism. The ''maxwell'' was recommended as a CGS unit at the International Electrical Congress held in 1900 at Paris. This practical unit was previously called a ''line'', reflecting Faraday's conception of the magnetic field as curved lines of magnetic force, which he designated as ''line of magnetic induction''. ''Kiloline'' (103 line) and ''megaline'' (106 line) were sometimes used because 1 line was very small relative to the phenomena that it was used to measure. The ''maxwell'' was affirmed again unanimously as the unit name for magnetic flux at the Plenary Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in July 1930 at Oslo. In 1933, the Electric and Magnetic Magnitudes and Units committee of the IEC recommended to adopt the metre–kilogram–second ( MKS) system (Giorgi s ...

MX Missile
The LGM-118 Peacekeeper, originally known as the MX for "Missile, Experimental", was a MIRV-capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) produced and deployed by the United States from 1985 to 2005. The missile could carry up to twelve Mark 21 reentry vehicles (although treaties limited its actual payload to 10), each armed with a 300-kiloton W87 warhead. Initial plans called for building and deploying 100 MX ICBMs, but budgetary concerns eliminated the final procurement; only 50 entered service. Disarmament treaties signed after the Peacekeeper's development led to its withdrawal from service in 2005. Studies on the underlying concept started in the 1960s. The idea was to allow the U.S. to absorb a sneak attack by the USSR with enough warheads surviving to attack the remaining Soviet missile silos. To do so, the missiles had to be highly accurate, be based in such a way that enough would survive a nuclear attack, carry a large number of warheads so the survivors would still ...

MX Missiles
The MX Designation System was introduced by the Experimental Engineering Section of the US Army Air Corps Materiel Division in 1941. MX designations were used for experimental weapon system programs, including jet- and rocket-powered systems, precision-guided munitions, and other systems designed and manufactured by U.S. defense contractors under contracts provided by the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941, the United States Army Air Force (1945–1947), and the United States Air Force (1947–1954). Some MX designated programs were also pursued by United States Navy. For example MX-554 led both to the Army JB-2 as well as the Navy KGW. The MX designation system was not used by any other US military organization other than in reference to the USAAC, USAAF and USAF programs. The "MX" indexation system was in use until July 1, 1954, but certain weapon programs have been referred to by their "MX" designation during their project development since 1954, such as the SM-65 Atlas (M ...
