''MTV Unplugged: Korn'' is an acoustic live album by American nu metal band Korn, released worldwide on March 5, 2007, and on the following day in the United States. Album information The performance, part of the ''MTV Unplugged'' series, took place in MTV studios in Times Square, New York City on December 9, 2006, in front of a crowd of approximately fifty people. It was the band's first and only live album recorded as a three piece band since drummer David Silveria departed the group earlier that month. The MTV concert was Korn's second televised acoustic performance, after appearing on '' Jimmy Kimmel Live!'' on July 18, 2006. The show was broadcast online on MTV.com on February 23, 2007, and was broadcast on television networks in America, Europe and Asia from March 2, 2007. Korn
Korn (stylized as KoЯn, or occasionally KoRn) is an American nu metal band from Bakersfield, California, formed in 1993. The band is notable for pioneering the nu metal genre and bringing it into the mainstream. Originally formed in 1993 by three members of the band L.A.P.D., Korn's current lineup features founding members James "Munky" Shaffer (guitar); Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu (bass); Brian "Head" Welch (guitar, backing vocals); and Jonathan Davis (lead vocals, bagpipes), with the addition of Ray Luzier (drums) in 2007, replacing the band's first drummer David Silveria. Nu Metal
Nu metal (sometimes stylized as nü-metal, sometimes called aggro-metal) is a subgenre of that combines elements of heavy metal music with elements of other music genres such as hip hop, alternative rock, funk, industrial, and grunge. Nu metal bands have drawn elements and influences from a variety of musical styles, including multiple genres of heavy metal. Nu metal rarely features guitar solos or other displays of technical competence; the genre is heavily syncopated and based on guitar riffs. Many nu metal guitarists use seven-string guitars that are down-tuned to produce a heavier sound. The bass trombone (german: Bassposaune, it, trombone basso) is the bass instrument in the trombone family of brass instruments. Modern instruments are pitched in the same B♭ as the tenor trombone but with a larger bore, bell and mouthpiece to facilitate low register playing, and usually two valves to fill in the missing range immediately above the pedal tones. Cimbasso
The cimbasso is a low brass instrument that developed from the upright serpent over the course of the 19th century in Italian opera orchestras, to cover the same range as a tuba or contrabass trombone. The modern instrument has four to six rotary valves (or occasionally piston valves), a forward-facing bell, and a predominantly cylindrical bore. These features lend its sound to the bass of the trombone family rather than the tuba, and its valves allow for more agility than a contrabass trombone. Michael Jochum
Michael Jochum is an American rock/jazz/nu metal drummer. Although a session musician early in his career, he gained more recognition as a touring member of the band Korn. He started as a musician in the late 1970s as a member of the jazz rock/jazz fusion band, Kittyhawk. He also began performing on sessions for the likes of jazz musician David Pritchard, Ronnie Laws, Bobby Bland, and DeBarge. By the mid-1980s, he was playing alongside then-former Oingo Boingo members Richard Gibbs and Kerry Hatch in the band Zuma II, which had an eponymously titled record released by Pasha/CBS Records. One of his first major contributions as a session musician was as the sole drummer on the self-titled debut album from songwriting/recording duo Boy Meets Girl. Rob Patterson (born November 9, 1970) is an American guitarist and composer. Background Patterson was born in Natick, Massachusetts. His first major band was the metal, female-fronted Otep. He wrote and played on the albums, ''Sevas Tra'', '' House of Secrets'' and ''Smash the Control Machine''. He was a touring guitarist for Korn from July 2005–March 2008, after the departure of Brian "Head" Welch. In April 2008, Patterson became engaged to Carmen Electra, but they never wed and split in 2012.
