The election of Members of Parliament (MPs) to the 5th Parliament of the Fourth Republic was held on 7 December 2008. The Speaker is not an elected member of parliament. There are a total of 230 constituencies in Ghana. The Supreme Court of Ghana ordered that the election be re-run in six polling stations. 2008 Ghanaian Parliamentary Election
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2008. Since no candidate received more than 50% of the votes, a run-off election was held on 28 December 2008 between the two candidates who received the most votes, Nana Akufo-Addo of the governing New Patriotic Party and John Atta Mills of the opposition National Democratic Congress. Mills was certified as the victor by a margin of less than one percent, winning the presidency on his third attempt. It is to date the closest election in Ghanaian history. Background On 21 December 2006, former Vice-President John Atta Mills, who unsuccessfully ran as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate in 2000 and 2004, was overwhelmingly elected by NDC as its candidate for the 2008 presidential election. Albert Kan-Dapaah
Albert Kan-Dapaah (born 14 March 1953) is a Ghanaian chartered accountant and politician. He is currently the Minister of National Security. He was appointed by President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo on 10 January 2017. Early life and education Kan-Dapaah was born on 14 March 1953. He is an Ashanti and hails from Maase-Boaman in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Albert Kan-Dapaah had his secondary education at Acherensua Secondary School from 1964 to 1969. He then studied Accountancy at the University of Professional Studies (UPS), Accra Legon. He had further Accountancy courses at the North East London Polytechnic, London and the Emile Woolf College of Accountancy. Career Kan-Dapaah worked with Pannel Kerr Forster, a chartered accounting firm as an Audit Senior. He worked in their offices in Monrovia, Liberia and London, UK between 1978 and 1986. Afigya Sekyere West is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. Afigya Sekyere West is located in the Afigya-Sekyere district of the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The constituency became defunct after the electoral commission rezoned and merged some constituencies ahead of the 2012 parliamentary elections. Hennric David Yeboah (1957 – 1 March 2019) was a businessman and Ghanaian politician of the Republic of Ghana. He was the Member of Parliament representing Afigya Sekyere East constituency of the Ashanti Region of Ghana in the 4th, 5th, and 6th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana. He was a member of the New Patriotic Party. Early life and education Yeboah was born on 11 March 1957. He hailed from Agona, a town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He studied at Malcolm X College in Chicago, Illinois. He received a diploma in 1986 from the said college. Kobina Tahir Hammond (born June 16, 1960) is a Ghanaian politician. He is the Member of Parliament for Adansi-Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and the 8th Parliament of the 4th Ghanaian Republic.
