The Shining Path (, SL), self-named the Communist Party of Peru (, abbr. PCP), is a Far-left politics, far-left political party and guerrilla group in Peru, following Marxism–Leninism–Maoism and Gonzalo Thought. Academics often refer to the group as the Communist Party of Peru – Shining Path (, abbr. PCP-SL) to distinguish it from other communist parties in Peru. When it first launched its "people's war" in 1980, the Shining Path's goal was to overthrow the government through guerrilla warfare and replace it with a New Democracy. The Shining Path believed that by establishing a dictatorship of the proletariat, inducing a cultural revolution, and eventually sparking a world revolution, they could arrive at Communist society, full communism. Gonzalo Thought
Gonzalo Thought (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Pensamiento Gonzalo''), also known as Marxism–Leninism–Maoism–Gonzalo Thought and Gonzaloism, is an ideological doctrine developed by Peru, Peruvian revolutionary Abimael Guzmán (also known as Chairman Gonzalo) as an interpretation of Peruvian reality based on Marxism–Leninism–Maoism. Anti-revisionism (Marxism–Leninism), Anti-revisionist in nature, Gonzalo Thought was the ideological basis of the Shining Path, Communist Party of Peru—Shining Path (PCP-SL) and the trigger for the Peruvian Civil War of 1980–2000. The ideology is based on the synthesized philosophies of Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, Mao Zedong, and José Carlos Mariátegui.
