MOMS
Mothers Organized for Moral Stability, also known as MOMS, was a socially conservative American organization that arose in Orange County, California in the 1960s and whose primary goal was to counter the cultural trend at the time towards allowing sexual education and techniques for birth control to be taught in public schools. It was one of a number of such acronym-based conservative American organizations and shared a political agenda with groups such as SOS ("Sanity on Sex"), POSSE ("Parents Opposed to Sex and Sensitivity Education"), PAUSE ("Parents Against Unconstitutional Sex Education"), ACRE ("Associated Citizens for Responsible Education"), POPE ("Parents for Orthodoxy in Parochial Education"), and CHIDE ("Committee to Halt Indoctrination and Demoralization in Education") among many others. Anaheim Union High School District
The Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) is a public school district serving portions of the Orange County cities of Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress, La Palma, and Stanton. It oversees eight junior high schools (7-8), eight high schools (9-12), and one non-magnet, secondary selective school, Oxford Academy (7-12). Its superintendent, Dr. Elizabeth Novack, was fired in December 2013 without public explanation. ''Is the School House the Proper Place to Teach Raw Sex?'' is a pamphlet written in 1968 by Gordon V. Drake and published by Billy James Hargis's Christian Crusade. It was a key document in the conservative fight against sex education in public schools, a cultural issue that contributed to the development of the New Right. The 40-page document, described by ''Time'' magazine as, "an angry little pamphlet," was originally distributed as part of a direct-mail fundraising campaign for the Christian Crusade, so that the organization could lobby against sex education in schools. Billy James Hargis
Billy James Hargis (August 3, 1925 – November 27, 2004) was an American Christian evangelist. At the height of his popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, his ''Christian Crusade'' ministry was broadcast on more than 500 radio stations and 250 television stations. He promoted an anti-Communist, segregationist message as well as evangelizing, and founded a radio station, monthly newspaper, and a college in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to support his ministries. In 1974, several students at his American Christian College accused Hargis of sexual misconduct; however, the Tulsa district attorney found no evidence of wrongdoing. Hargis went into partial retirement, and the college closed in 1977. He continued to publish his newspaper and write books.
