MIDROC-Mohammed International Development Research and Organization Companies is a company owned by Sheik Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi. It has operations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Mohammed Hussein Ali Al-'Amoudi ( ar, محمد حسين علي العمودي; born 1946) is a Saudi billionaire businessman. He was born Ethiopia in 1946 to a Yemeni father from Hadhramaut and Ethiopian Amhara mother from Wollo. In 2016, his net worth was estimated by ''Forbes'' at approximately $10.9 billion and a relative fall in net value was linked to the global fall in oil and gold prices at the time of estimation. He was also listed as Ethiopia's richest man, the second richest Saudi Arabian citizen in the world and the second richest person of African descent in the world. The Sheraton Addis is an international hotel located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is part of Marriott's Luxury Collection. It has 293 rooms, as well as a number of villas. Amhara Region
The Amhara Region ( am, አማራ ክልል, Åmara Kilil), officially the Amhara National Regional State (), is a regional state in northern Ethiopia and the homeland of the Amhara people. Its capital is Bahir Dar which is the seat of the Regional Government of Amhara. Lega Dembi Mine
The Lega Dembi Mine is the largest gold mine in Ethiopia. It is near Shakiso in Oromia. Lega Dembi has a yearly production of around 4,500 kg of gold and silver, and is owned by MIDROC. Pollution from the mine has resulted in environmental conflict that has exacerbated other political and ethnic conflict in the region. The mine has exposed thousands of people to cyanide, arsenic and mercury pollution greatly exceeding WHO guidelines, causing severe negative health effects including many stillbirths, birth defects, and deformities. In 2022, the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights and the Environment, David R. Boyd described the mine as one of the worst sacrifice zones in the world.
