''M:FANS'' is the sixteenth solo studio album by Welsh musician and composer John Cale. It was released in January 2016 on the Double Six Records imprint of Domino Recording Company. Produced by Cale, it features new versions of songs from his 1982 album ''Music for a New Society''. "Close Watch" was the album's lead single. It was released in November 2015 and features Amber Coffman from Dirty Projectors. Background In a statement Cale recounted the process of making the album, and how the 2013 death of former bandmate and collaborator Lou Reed had informed it: Losing Lou oo painful to understandforced me to upend the entire recording process and begin again...a different perspective - a new sense of urgency to tell a story from a completely opposite point of view - what was once sorrow, was now a form of rage. ''Music for a New Society'' is the eighth solo studio album by Welsh musician John Cale, released in September 1982 by ZE Records and Island Records. With the suggestion from ZE Records owner Michael Zilkha, Cale performed the album mostly improvised live at Skyline Studios in New York City. The album was a creative shift after several rock-oriented albums, with sparse piano-based performances. Background and recording Following on from the commercial success of his previous studio album, ''Honi Soit'' (1981), John Cale turned his label, SPY Records, which had released singles from Marie et les Garçons, Lester Bangs, and Cale himself between 1977 and 1980, over to Michael Zilkha. John Cale
John Davies Cale (born 9 March 1942) is a Welsh musician, composer, singer, songwriter and record producer who was a founding member of the American rock band the Velvet Underground. Over his six-decade career, Cale has worked in various styles across rock, drone, classical, avant-garde and electronic music. He studied music at Goldsmiths College, University of London, before relocating in 1963 to New York City's downtown music scene, where he performed as part of the Theatre of Eternal Music and formed the Velvet Underground. Since leaving the band in 1968, Cale has released sixteen solo studio albums, including the widely acclaimed '' Paris 1919'' (1973) and '' Music for a New Society'' (1982). ''Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood'' is the fifteenth solo studio album by Welsh rock musician John Cale. It was released on 1 October 2012 in Europe and 2 October in North America on the Double Six Records imprint of Domino Records. It was released as digital download, heavyweight vinyl and CD. Most of the songs were recorded by John Cale in his own studio in Los Angeles. On one track he collaborated with Danger Mouse. In September 2011 Cale released the ''Extra Playful'' EP and its release promised that the new album would be released the following year. It is his first studio album since 2005's ''blackAcetate''. Matt Fish (cellist)
Matt Fish is an American cellist and a music producer. Early life and education Fish was born in Lodi, California, and grew up in Dubuque, Iowa. He start playing piano at age five, and took up the cello at age nine. In high school Fish studied cello with George Work at Iowa State University and Charles Wendt at University of Iowa. He graduated from Indiana University School of Music, where he studied jazz with David Baker and classical cello with Helga Winold. Career Fish moved to San Francisco and became a founding member of Combing Dolores, an acoustic jazz-folk trio. While in San Francisco, Fish recorded on the second album of singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson, ''Ernst''. Alex Thomas
Alex Thomas (born 10 October 1978) is an English drummer from Lutterworth, Leicestershire, who performs with Squarepusher and Air. He also performed with John Cale (2013). Thomas joined Bolt Thrower on 21 August 1997. He played drums on ''Mercenary'' and the ''Into The Killing Zone'' tour, then left the band in 2000 due to lack of interest in the musical direction that Bolt Thrower were taking. Deantoni Parks
Deantoni Parks (born November 2, 1977) is an American new wave/avant-garde/experimental musician. He is the co-founder, co-producer and drummer of the New York band KUDU along with artist Sylvia Black, and one half of the writing duo We Are Dark Angels alongside Nicci Kasper, also a member of KUDU. Parks was a member of progressive rock band the Mars Volta and (together with Kasper) a member of the alternative rock act Bosnian Rainbows. Based in Brooklyn, New York, Parks is a vested partner in a developing audio/visual communications agency.
