MEPs Against Cancer
MEPs Against Cancer is a group of 130 Members of the European Parliament who aim to "promote action on cancer as an EU priority and harness European health policy to that end" and to encourage every country to develop a national plan for combating cancer. It is chaired by Cypriot MEP Loukas Fourlas and French MEP Véronique Trillet-Lenoir. A Member of the European Parliament (MEP) is a person who has been elected to serve as a popular representative in the European Parliament. When the European Parliament (then known as the Common Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community, ECSC) first met in 1952, its members were directly appointed by the governments of member states from among those already sitting in their own national parliaments. Loukas Fourlas
Loukas Fourlas (born August21, 1969) is a Cypriot journalist and politician who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament for the Democratic Rally since 2019. In parliament, Fourlas serves on the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs. In 2020, he also joined the Special Committee on Beating Cancer. Véronique Trillet-Lenoir
Véronique Trillet-Lenoir (; 12 June 19579 August 2023) was a French oncologist and politician of La République En Marche! (LREM) who was elected as a member of the European Parliament in 2019. After joining the Parliament, Trillet-Lenoir was a member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. Early life and education Trillet-Lenoir was born in Lyon on 12 June 1957. She studied at the Faculty of Medicine of Claude Bernard University Lyon 1. She completed her medical studies in 1980, obtained a state doctorate in medicine in 1985, and a doctorate in human biology in 1991. Career After obtaining her doctorate in medicine and following her medical internship, she worked with clinical scientists at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. European Parliament
The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Together with the Council of the European Union (known as the Council and informally as the Council of Ministers), it adopts European legislation, following a proposal by the European Commission. Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is the world's largest independent cancer research organization. It is registered as a charity in the United Kingdom and Isle of Man, and was formed on 4 February 2002 by the merger of The Cancer Research Campaign and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. The political groups of the European Parliament are the officially recognised political groups consisting of legislators of aligned ideologies in the European Parliament.
