MCCUU
The Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform (MCCUU) is the current battledress, battledress uniform of the United States Marine Corps. It is also worn by United States Navy, Navy personnel (mostly United States Navy Hospital Corpsman, corpsmen, Seabees, United States Navy Chaplain Corps, chaplains, and Religious program specialist, their bodyguards) assigned to Marine Corps units (e.g. the Fleet Marine Force). It replaced the Battle Dress Uniform, which the Marine Corps had shared with the Navy, United States Army, Army and United States Air Force, Air Force. However, both the MCCUU, and its distinctive camouflage pattern, MARPAT, are exclusive to the Marine Corps, which holds the patents to their design. Battle Dress Uniform
The Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) is a camouflaged combat uniform that was used by the United States Armed Forces as their standard combat uniform from the early 1980s to the mid-2000s. Since then, it has been replaced or supplanted in every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. BDU-style uniforms and derivatives still see widespread use in other countries (some of them being former U.S. surplus stocks transferred under U.S. security assistance programs), while others are still worn by some U.S. federal, state, and local law enforcement agents who may work in tactical situations, such as the DEA FAST and SWAT teams. Religious Program Specialist
Religious program specialist (RP) is a United States Navy rating. Religious program specialists assist naval chaplains in their duties as well as provide support to naval chaplains in developing programs to meet the needs of U.S. Navy sailors, U.S. Marines, and their families. They also act as armed bodyguards for the chaplains (who are largely unarmed). Utility Cover
The utility cover, also known as the utility cap and eight-pointed cover, is the United States Marine Corps cap, worn with their combat utility uniform. It is an eight-pointed hat, with a visor similar to a baseball cap. It is worn "blocked", that is, creased and peaked, for a sharper appearance. A version is also worn as part of the U.S. Navy's Navy Working Uniform. History The utility cover was first issued in World War II, with the Herringbone Twill utility uniform issued in 1943. Camouflage
Camouflage is the use of any combination of materials, coloration, or illumination for concealment, either by making animals or objects hard to see, or by disguising them as something else. Examples include the leopard's spotted coat, the battledress of a modern soldier, and the leaf-mimic katydid's wings.
