Founded in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, in 1888, the MBL is a private, nonprofit institution that was independent for most of its history, but became officially affiliated with the University of Chicago on July 1, 2013. It also collaborates with numerous other institutions. As of 2022, 60 Nobel Prize winners have been affiliated with MBL as students, faculty members or researchers. In addition since 1960, there have been, 137 Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators, early career scientists, international researchers, and professors; 306 members of the National Academy of Sciences; and 236 Members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences who have been affiliated with the lab. National Security College (Israel)
The National Security College ( he, המכללה לביטחון לאומי, haMichlala l'Bitachon Leumi, variously abbreviated as MBL, MABL, MBAL, MABAL), also translated as the National Defense College is a military education institution in Israel intended to provide education on the foundations of national security at an academic level in political and social issues. The college is intended for senior members of the all branches of the Israeli security forces. The decision to establish the college was made by the cabinet in 1962 and it was opened in October 1963 with Colonel Uzi Narkiss as its head but in 1966 a committee was established to analyze whether the existence of the college is justified in view of the difficult economic situation. It was decided that the college failed to efficiently address the stated goals and it was decided to close it in 1967. It was decided to reopen it in 1977. Free Brazil Movement
Free Brazil Movement (, MBL) is a Brazilian conservative and economically liberal movement founded in 2014. Initially a ramification of the Brazilian branch of Students for Liberty, it grew boarding the political dissatisfaction after the 2013 protests in Brazil, receiving funding from external (''e.g.: ''Atlas Network) and internal (''e.g.'': Democratas, PSDB, PMDB) sources. Its leader is the activist and lawmaker Kim Kataguiri. According to the newspaper ''Folha de S.Paulo'', the MBL was mainly responsible for the convening of the demonstrations of 15 March and 12 April in 2015 against the social governmental establishment of Dilma Rousseff and the Workers' Party. The group's headquarters are located in São Paulo, and according to ''The Economist'', was "founded last year to promote the answers of the free market for the country's problems" In manifesto published on the internet, the MBL, often described as the "Brazilian Tea Party", cites its five goals, "free and independ ...

Mannan-binding Lectin
Mannose-binding lectin (MBL), also called mannan-binding lectin or mannan-binding protein (MBP), is a lectin that is instrumental in innate immunity as an opsonin and via the lectin pathway. Structure MBL has an oligomeric structure (400-700 kDa), built of subunits that contain three presumably identical peptide chains of about 30 kDa each. Although MBL can form several oligomeric forms, there are indications that dimers and trimers are biologically inactive as an opsonin and at least a tetramer form is needed for activation of complement. Genes and polymorphisms Human MBL2 gene is located on chromosome 10q11.2-q21. Mice have two homologous genes, but in human the first of them was lost. A low level expression of an MBL1 pseudogene 1 (MBL1P1) was detected in liver. The pseudogene encodes a truncated 51-amino acid protein that is homologous to the MBLA isoform in rodents and some primates. Structural mutations in exon 1 of the human MBL2 gene, at codon 52 (Arg to Cys, allele D), ...

Many-body Localization
Many-body localization (MBL) is a dynamical phenomenon occurring in isolated many-body quantum systems. It is characterized by the system failing to thermalization, reach thermal equilibrium, and retaining a memory of its initial condition in local observables for infinite times. Thermalization and localization Textbook Quantum statistical mechanics, quantum statistical mechanics assumes that systems go to thermal equilibrium (thermalization). The process of thermalization erases local memory of the initial conditions. In textbooks, thermalization is ensured by coupling the system to an external environment or "reservoir," with which the system can exchange energy. What happens if the system is isolated from the environment, and evolves according to its own Schrödinger equation? Does the system still thermalize? Quantum mechanical time evolution is unitary and formally preserves all information about the initial condition in the quantum state at all times. However, a quant ...

Monoclonal B-cell Lymphocytosis
Monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis (MBL) is an asymptomatic condition in which individuals have increased blood levels of particular subtypes of monoclonal lymphocytes (i.e. an aberrant and potentially malignant group of lymphocytes produced by a single ancestral cell). This increase must persist for at least 3 months. The lymphocyte subtypes are B-cells that share certain features with the abnormal clones of lymphocytes that circulate in chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocyte lymphoma (CLL/SLL) or, less frequently, other types of B-cell malignancies. Some individuals with these circulating B-cells develop CLL/SLL or the lymphoma types indicated by their circulating monoclonal B-cells. Hence, MBL is a premalignant disorder In 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) reclassified MBL as a distinct entity in which individuals have: 1) an excessive number of circulating monoclonal B-cells; 2) lack evidence of lymphadenopathy, organomegaly, or other tissue involvements caused by ...
