MATA Festival
The MATA Festival is a New York-based annual contemporary classical music festival devoted to championing the works of young composers. It was founded in 1996 by Philip Glass, Lisa Bielawa and Eleonor Sandresky and is currently under the leadership of executive director Amanda Gookin. History Bielawa and Sandresky were part of Glass's touring ensemble in the early 1990s; during road tours, the three conceived of concerts that would serve as an outlet for unaffiliated composers. These concerts would later form the basis of the MATA festival. MATA's concerts were originally presented at the Anthology Film Archives, leading to its name: the acronym stands for "Music at the Anthology". Ann Cleare
Ann Cleare (born 1983 in County Offaly) is an Irish composer. She is Assistant Professor at Trinity College Dublin. In 2019 she won the prestigious Ernst von Siemens Music Prize, Ernst von Siemens Composers' Prize, sharing it with Annesley Black and Mithatcan Öcal. Education Cleare studied with John Godfrey (composer), John Godfrey and Jesse Ronneau at University College Cork, where she was awarded an MPhil. She later studied at IRCAM in Paris and went on to complete her PhD in composition with Chaya Czernowin and Hans Tutschku at Harvard University. Ken Ueno (born January 11, 1970 in Bronxville, New York) is an American composer. Career Ueno pursued initial studies in music at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY, but soon transferred to Berklee College of Music, where he earned a B.M. in Film Scoring/Composition ''Summa Cum Laude'' (1992)'';'' his graduate studies at Boston University and Yale School of Music earned him Masters degrees; he later completed a doctorate at Harvard University.
