Soshanguve
Soshanguve is a Township (South Africa), township situated about 30 km north of Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa along Mabopane, and Ga-Rankuwa. The name Soshanguve is an acronym for Sotho, Shangaan, Nguni and Venda, thus showing the multi-ethnic composition of the population. The major African languages of South Africa are heard in Soshanguve. History The acronym divided the Soshanguve residents according to their tribe when they were resettled from Mamelodi and Atteridgeville in 1974. While this was to make admin easy for the apartheid government, it left a community divided and suspicious of each other. Mabopane
Mabopane is a residential suburb in South Africa. It is situated in the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, to the north of Pretoria in Gauteng. History Proclamation Mabopane was proclaimed in 1959 as a black-only residential settlement by the then Transvaal administration. Before its proclamation, the area was under the administration of Transvaal government little more than grazing lands with small communities in Boekenhoutfontein (which later became Block A), Winterveld and Hebron. The initial residents of Boekenhoutfontein were victims of forced removals from Wallmansthal, Lady Selborne, Boekenhoutkloof and other farm areas around Pretoria. With the financing coming from the South African government the first blockhouses were constructed similarly to those found in Soweto, beginning with Block A which had two-roomed houses, Block B, Block C, Block D and Block E. Route The M35 route begins at a junction with the R566 Route just north of the Pretoria North suburb. It begins by heading north-north-west for 14 kilometres, flying over the N4 Highway (Platinum Highway) and bypassing the Onderstepoort Private Nature Reserve to the east, to reach a junction with the M39 route. The M39 joins the M35 and they are one road northwards for 2 kilometres before the M39 becomes its own road westwards towards Soshanguve Central. The M17 road is a metropolitan route in the City of Tshwane in Gauteng, South Africa. It connects the suburb of Kirkney in Pretoria with the northern parts of Soshanguve and Mabopane. Route The M17 route begins in the suburb of Kirkney (north-west of Pretoria CBD; just west of Booysens), at a junction with the R514 Route (Van Der Hoff Road). It connects a rural area north of Pretoria (Pyramid) with a rural area north-west of Pretoria (Lebalangwe) via Soshanguve and Mabopane. Route The M39 route begins at a junction with the R101 Route (Old Warmbaths Road) about 2 kilometres north of Pyramid. It heads westwards for 12.5 kilometres to reach a t-junction with the M35 route. The M39 joins the M35 and they are one road northwards for 2 kilometres before the M39 becomes its own road westwards to enter the town of Soshanguve. The M21 road is a long metropolitan route in the City of Tshwane in Gauteng, South Africa. It connects Ga-Rankuwa with Hammanskraal via Mabopane and Soshanguve. Route The M21 route begins at a junction with the R513 Route (Brits Road) near De Wildt, North West. It heads northwards to cross the N4 Highway (Platinum Highway; westbound only) just east of the N4's Brits Toll Plaza. It continues north to meet the R566 Route and enter the township of Ga-Rankuwa as Kware Street.
