The M13 is a short metropolitan route in the City of Johannesburg, South Africa. It begins in the town of Randburg in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. Route The M13 begins its northern direction at Republic Road's intersection of Judges Avenue ( M8) and the southern part of Republic Road ( M20) in Cresta. It heads north through Windsor East and Windsor passing by the Randpark Golf Club. It then passes north through Randpark and Robin Hills before turning eastwards as it passes the suburbs of Fontainebleau and Malanshof and reaches the intersection of Malibongwe Drive ( R512). Malibongwe Drive
Malibongwe Drive, formerly known as Hans Strijdom Drive ( af, Hans Strijdom-rylaan), is a major road that runs through an industrial area in the northwest of Johannesburg, South Africa. It connects Randburg with Northgate and Lanseria International Airport. ''Malibongwe'' is said to mean "be praised" or blessed and which the Johannesburg Development Agency says refers to the 1956 Women's March, a woman's march against the carrying of passes. Hans Strijdom Drive, as well as another major Randburg road, Hendrik Verwoerd Drive, were renamed due to their strong ties to Apartheid. For its entire route, it is named Winnie Mandela Drive (formerly William Nicol Drive; renamed on 26 September 2023). M27 is a major road in Johannesburg, South Africa. A large part of the route is named Jan Smuts Avenue which is roughly 12 km long. It begins in the southern suburb of Booysens and heads northwards through the Johannesburg CBD and the northern suburbs of Randburg. Route The M27 begins at the M1 Booysens Street Interchange as a number of off-ramps and heads northwards as Booysens Street through Booysens, Ophirton and into Selby. In Selby, the M27 crosses under the M2 motorway at the Village Road/Selby Interchange into the Johannesburg CBD. Here the route becomes one-way as Pixley Seme Street heading north through the city with Newtown to the west. Jan Smuts Avenue is a major street in Johannesburg, South Africa. It begins in Randburg, and passes through important business areas like Rosebank. M71 is a major metropolitan route in the City of Johannesburg, South Africa. Starting in the northern CBD, it connects the centre of Johannesburg with the northern suburbs before ending in the outer northern city of Midrand. Route The route begins at an intersection with the M11 Clarendon Place in Hillbrow. As Empire Road is a dual carriage way, the west/east road is signed as the M71 while the east/west route is cosigned with the M17. The route heads west in Parktown, passing Pieter Roos Park before crossing Victoria Avenue (M9) and then later passed Parktown Boys' High School. Here it crosses Jan Smuts Avenue (M27) for the first time, continuing to the first junction with the M1 motorway allowing the latter's south bound traffic to enter and exit. Bram Fischer
Abraham Louis Fischer (23 April 1908 – 8 May 1975) was a South African Communist lawyer of Afrikaner descent, notable for anti-apartheid activism and for the legal defence of anti-apartheid figures, including Nelson Mandela, at the Rivonia Trial. Following the trial he was himself put on trial accused of furthering communism. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, and diagnosed with cancer while in prison. The South African Prisons Act was extended to include his brother's house in Bloemfontein where he died two months later.
