M. G. Chakrapani
Maruthur Gopalan Chakrapani (13 January 1911 – 17 August 1986), commonly known as Ettan ("elder brother" in Malayalam), was an Indian actor and producer based in the Tamil film industry. He was the elder brother of actor-politician M. G. Ramachandran. Early life Chakrapani was born in Vadavannur, Kingdom of Cochin (now Kerala), on 13 January 1911. His parents, Gopala Menon and Sathyabhama, named him Neelakantan, but this was soon changed to Chakrapani because of his father's religious beliefs. Soon after his birth, the family migrated to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) where Chakrapani's two younger siblings (brother M. G. Ramachandran and a sister) were born. Gopala Menon worked as a magistrate in Kandy, until he suffered an early death. Chakrapani's sister also died while they were in Ceylon. ''Mahamaya'' () is a 1944 Indian Tamil-language historical drama film directed by T. R. Raghunath, starring P. U. Chinnappa and P. Kannamba. It was released on 16 October 1944. Plot Mahamaya, the princess of the kingdom of Gandhara and Vikram, the prince of a neighbouring kingdom happen to be pupils of the same teacher (Guru). ''Ithaya Geetham'' is a 1950 Indian Tamil-language historical romance film written, directed and produced by Joseph Thaliath Jr. The film stars T.R. Mahalingam and T. R. Rajakumari. Plot A king is on his deathbed. He requests his friend to take care of the queen (Rajalakshmi) and their daughter (Rajakumari). The friend has two sons. Ramachandran (credited as Ramachandar) and V. N. Janaki. It was released on 2 April 1950 and became a box office success. Plot A king has two wives, one of who is Chithra. The minister Dhurjeyan's sister is the younger queen. The two become pregnant and Dhurjeyan persuades the king to believe that the older queen had poisoned the younger queen out of sheer jealousy which the king tends to believe, but does not take any action. ''Ponmudi'' is a 1950 Tamil-language film directed by Ellis R. Dungan. It was based on the Tamil poet Bharathidasan's verse novel ''Ethirparatha Mutham''. Plot ''Ponmudi'' was a love story based on the Bharathidasan novel ''Edhirparatha Mutham''. Production Producer T. R. Sundaram of Modern Theatres wanted to make a film based on ''Edhirparatha Mutham'' (lit. Unexpected Kiss) – a novel written by the Tamil rationalist poet Bharatidasan. Ellis Dungan was hired to direct Bharathidasan's script. The film was made at the Modern Theatres studio in Salem. Some scenes were also filmed in Yercaud. For shooting beach scenes, Dungan had a beach set constructed in Salem, out of sand brought from Adyar beach. Music was composed by G. Ramanathan and lyrics were written by Marudhakasi-Ka. Mu. Raja Mukthi () is a 1948 Indian Tamil language film starring M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, V. N. Janaki and P. Bhanumathi. M. G. Ramachandran had done a supporting role.
