M. C. Joseph
Mookencheril Cherian Joseph, popularly known as ''Yukthivadi'' M. C. Joseph (യുക്തിവാദി എം സി ജോസഫ്), was an eminent rationalist from Kerala, India. He was one of the very significant figures of Kerala Renaissance too. Joseph was born on 6 January 1887 at Thripunithura in Kerala. His father was Cherian "Kuncheria" of the Mookencheril house and his mother's name was Maria. After his education, he took up his career as a lawyer. He was one of the founders of ''Yukthivadi'' (meaning ''the Rationalist'' in English), the first ever rationalist / atheist magazine in Malayalam along with Ramavarma Thampan, C. Krishnan, C. V. Thrippunithura, Kerala
Thrippunithura or Tripunithura (), is a prominent historical and residential region in the City of Kochi in Kerala, India. Located about 7 km (4 mi) from the city centre, Tripunithura was the capital of the erstwhile Kingdom of Cochin. The descendants of the Cochin royal family still live in the palaces here. The Hill Palace situated in Tripunithura was the palace of Maharaja of Cochin, the ruler of Kingdom of Cochin. Tripunithura is also well known for its historical cultures and worldwide famous because of Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple and the annual festival ''Vrishchikoltsawam'' that takes place at the temple. Sreeni Pattathanam
Sreeni Pattathanam (born 10 June 1956) is a rationalist, activist, and writer from Kerala, India. He was born in the Pattathanam area of Kollam City in the Indian state of Kerala. Pattathanam was the editor of ''Ranarekha'', a monthly in Malayalam, which ceased publication in the 1980s. He started publishing another monthly in Malayalam called ''Yukthirajyam''. This journal is the official journal of the organization, ''Bharatheeya Yukthivadi Sangham'' (Rationalist Association of India). He was also the secretary of the Kerala state branch of Indian Rationalist Association. Pattathanam later left IRA and started, with like-minded people, another rationalist association, Bharathiya Yukthivadi Sangham. Thiruvananthapuram (; ), also known by its former name Trivandrum (), is the capital of the Indian state of Kerala. It is the most populous city in Kerala with a population of 957,730 as of 2011. Kerala ( ; ) is a state on the Malabar Coast of India. Joseph Edamaruku
Joseph Edamaruku (7 September 1934 – 29 June 2006), popularly identified by his surname ''Edamaruku'', was a journalist and rationalist from Kerala. He was the Delhi Bureau chief of the Malayalam magazine ''Keralasabdam'' for more than twenty years, and the founder-editor of ''Therali'', a rationalist periodical in Malayalam. He was president of the Indian Rationalist Association from 1995 to 2005. Edamaruku influenced a generation of freethinkers in 1970s and 1980s. His books were best-sellers in Kerala during those times. As a rationalist and an atheist, he wrote over 170 books on various subjects ranging from religion to philosophy to miracles. His autobiography, ''The Times that Raised the Tempest'', won a Kerala Literary Academy award. Vaisakhan
M.K. Gopinathan Nair, popularly known as Vaisakhan, is an Indian short story writer, playwright, and screenwriter. , he is the President of Kerala Sahitya Akademi. His stories are known for their simplicity in style and freshness in theme. Many of his stories feature the Indian Railways as the backdrop. Early life, education and career Vaisakhan was born in 1940 as Gopinathan to A.V. Krishna Kurup and Narayani Amma in Muvattupuzha. He did his education from Maharaja's College, Ernakulam, Nirmala College, and St. Albert's College. In 1964, he was appointed in the Southern Railway (India) as the station master. After 20 years of service, Vaisakhan took a voluntary retirement to pursue a full-time career in writing. Vaisakhan was married to Padma, who died in 1998. ''Yukthivadi'' (The Rationalist) was the first rationalist/atheist journal published in Malayalam. The contribution made by ''Yukthivadi'' to the renaissance of Kerala, India is significant. The launch of ''Yukthivadi'' marks the beginning of organised rationalism in Kerala, which is a key constituent of the Kerala reformation movement, Reformation Movement in the state. Anand (writer)
P. Sachidanandan (born 1936), who uses the pseudonym Anand, is an Indian writer, writing primarily in Malayalam. He is one of the known living intellectuals in India. His works are noted for their philosophical flavor, historical context and their humanism. He is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award and three Kerala Sahitya Akademi Awards (story, novel, and scholarly literature). He is also a recipient of Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, Vayalar Award, Odakkuzhal Award, Muttathu Varkey Award, Vallathol Award and Yashpal Award. He did not accept the Yashpal Award and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Novel. Palappurathu Kesavan Surendranatha Thilakan (15 July 1935 – 24 September 2012) was an Indian film and stage actor who appeared in over 200 Malayalam films. Thilakan was known for his elaborate method acting, realistic and spontaneous appearances. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest Indian actors of all time. Early life Thilakan was the second of the six children of Palapurath T. S. Keshavan (1904–1972) and Devayani (1912–2010).
