Margaret I. McAllister is an English author of children's books, born in 1956. She grew up on the north-east coast of England. Her first book, ''A Friend for Rachel'' (now entitled ''The Secret Mice'') was published by the Oxford University Press in 1997. A broader definition of the word "author" states: "''An author is "the person who originated or gave existence to anything" and whose authorship determines responsibility for what was created''."
