Diwan Bahadur Muthiah Chidambaram Pethachi Chettiar (1889–1924) was an Indian administrator who served as the second '' zamindar'' of Andipatti, succeeding his father S. Rm. M. Chidambaram Chettiar. Early life and education Muthiah Chettiar was born on 8 February 1887 to S. Rm. M. Chidambaram Chettiar, the second son of philanthropist Sattappa Ramanatha Muttaiya Chettiar. Diwan Bahadur
Dewan Bahadur or Diwan Bahadur was a title of honour awarded during British rule in India. It was awarded to individuals who had performed faithful service or acts of public welfare to the nation. From 1911 the title was accompanied by a special Title Badge. Dewan literally means Prime Minister in Indian context and ''Bahadur'' means brave. This title was above Rao Bahadur title and people with Rao Bahadur could be elevated to status of Diwan Bahadur. Further, the Prime Ministers of Indian Princely States were known as Dewan/ Diwan. They were also given or promoted directly to the title of Dewan Bahadur by British authorities on being appointed Dewan, to suit their post. A zamindar ( Hindustani: Devanagari: , ; Persian: , ) in the Indian subcontinent was an autonomous or semiautonomous ruler of a province. The term itself came into use during the reign of Mughals and later the British had begun using it as a native synonym for “estate”. The term means ''land owner'' in Persian. Typically hereditary, from whom they reserved the right to collect tax on behalf of imperial courts or for military purposes. During the period of British colonial rule in India many wealthy and influential zamindars were bestowed with princely and royal titles such as ''maharaja'' (great king), ''raja/rai'' (king) and ''nawab''. Andipatti or Aundipatty is a municipal body in Theni district in Madurai Region of Tamil Nadu state in southern India. It is on the bank of Vaigai River with rich flora and fauna species. Diwan Bahadur Satappa Ramanatha Muttaiya Ramaswami Chettiar (1872 – 5 November 1918) was an Indian businessman from what is now the state of Tamil Nadu. Early life Ramaswami Chettiar was born in 1872 to Muttaiya or Muthiah Chettiar of Chidambaram who was well known for his philanthropic activities.
