László Németh (basketball)
Dr. László Németh (born October 25, 1951) is a Hungarian former professional basketball coach and player. He has coached the national teams of Iceland, England, and Kuwait. Playing career Club career Németh played with Honvéd Budapest. He retired in 1976 after recurring knee injuries. National team career Németh played 16 games with the Hungarian national basketball team between 1969 and 1976. Coaching career KR Németh coached KR men's team from 1988 to 1990, where he was the Úrvalsdeild karla coach of the year in 1989 and 1990. He led the team to the Icelandic championship in 1990. He coached KR-b during part of its Icelandic Cup run in 2006. Icelandic Men's Basketball Cup
The Icelandic Men's Basketball Cup (Icelandic: Bikarkeppni KKÍ), also known as VÍS bikarinn for sponsorship reasons, is an annual professional basketball competition between clubs in Iceland. It is Iceland's first-tier cup competition, and is not to be confused with Iceland's former second-tier cup competition, the Company Cup. History and format The first edition of the Icelandic Cup championship took place in 1965, and was won by Ármann. In 1968 and 1969, the cup competition was not held, but it has been held regularly every year from 1970 onward. Teams in Úrvalsdeild karla and Division I have an automatic bye to the Final 32 while lower league teams might have to play preliminary rounds for a place, depending on the number of teams. It came into existence as a daily newspaper in 1981 when two formerly independent newspapers, Vísir and Dagblaðið, merged. Budapesti Honvéd SE is a basketball club based in Budapest, Hungary. With 33 Hungarian Championships and 17 Hungarian Cups won from the 1950s to the 1990s, it is the most successful team in the Hungarian national basketball league. The club was relegated from the 1st division in 2001, but continued as an amateur club in the 3rd division. Between 2004 and 2022 they have played in the 2nd division.
