Lyre GAA
Lyre GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club which takes its name from the nearby village of Lyre, County Cork, and is based in the village of Banteer in the north-west of County Cork, Ireland. The club plays Football and is affiliated with Banteer Hurling Club from the same parish. Founded in 1899, the club competes in the Duhallow Junior A Football Championship. Their first team competes in the Duhallow Junior A Football Championship and the Duhallow Junior A Football League. In 2010, the club won its first ever Duhallow Junior A Football Championship title and won their second title in 2013. Lyre also reached the final in 2015 and 2019. Banteer railway station is a station on the Mallow to Tralee railway line and serves the village of Banteer in County Cork, Ireland. Cork Junior Football Championship
The Cork Junior A Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Junior A Football Championship and abbreviated to the Cork JAFC) is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking junior clubs in the county of Cork in Ireland. It is the fifth tier overall in the entire Cork football championship system. The Cork Junior Championship was introduced in 1895 as a countywide competition for teams deemed not eligible for the senior grade or second-string senior teams. At the time of its creation it was the second tier of Cork football. Castlemagner
Castlemagner () is a village and townland in the Duhallow area of north-west County Cork, Ireland. Castlemagner is within the Cork North-West (Dáil constituency). History The area takes its name from the eponymous Castle Magner, a Norman-era tower house which is located approximately east of the village itself on the eastern boundary of Castlemagner townland. Owned by a Richard Magner during the Irish Rebellion of 1641, the tower house was largely destroyed in the late 16th century. The lands surrounding Castle Magner were confiscated during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland. The castle is largely in ruin, though the stair turret and parts of the surrounding bawn wall remain. Close to the castle is Saint Bridget's Church, a disused but largely extant Church of Ireland church. Newmarket, historically known as Aghatrasna (), is a town in the barony of Duhallow, County Cork, Ireland. It is situated at the junction of the R576 and R578 regional roads. Newmarket is within the Cork North-West Dáil constituency History The foundation of the town of Newmarket can be dated to the early 1600s, when King James I granted the lands which had formerly been held by the McAuliffe clan to the Aldworth family, with the right to hold a market there. 2021 Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship
The 2021 Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship was the second staging of the Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship and the 133rd staging overall of a championship for the top-ranking hurling teams in Cork. The draw for the group stage placings took place on 29 April 2021. The championship began on 14 July 2021 and ended on 21 November 2021. Blackrock entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Midleton at the semi-final stage. Carrigtwohill were relegated from the championship after being beaten in a playoff by Charleville. The final was played on 21 November 2021 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork, between Glen Rovers and Midleton, in what was their first meeting in a final in 30 years. Charleville GAA
Charleville GAA club is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in the town of Charleville, County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated with the Cork GAA county board and the Avondhu divisional board. History Charleville or Rathluirc GAA club was founded in 1888, and was drawn against Ballyhea in the championship that year. In 1914 the club had its first success winning the county Middle Grade ( Intermediate) hurling championship. In the early 1930s, after experiencing some lean years, the club decided to run street leagues for the whole parish initially at adult level and later at minor level. These games were often fiercely contested as the pride of a particular part of the town was at stake. In 1937 a separate club named Seán Clarach was set up to oversee the minor age group.
