Lynx Incident
USRC ''Eagle'' was one of the first ten cutters operated by the United States' Revenue Cutter Service (later to become the US Coast Guard). The ''Eagle'' has been often misidentified as the cutter ''Pickering'', which was in fact not launched until 1798 (and so was not among the first ten cutters). ''Eagle'' was built in Savannah, Georgia for service in that state's waters. Savannah remained her homeport throughout her career as a revenue cutter. Wool is the textile fibre obtained from sheep and other mammals, especially goats, rabbits, and camelids. First Ten Revenue Service Cutters
The first ten Revenue Service cutters were ten oceangoing cutters built at the behest of the 1st United States Congress in the early 1790s to crack down on smuggling. Since the United States Navy had at the time not yet been formed (it was established in 1798), these ten cutters of the newly formed Revenue Marine therefore represent the United States Government's first official "armed force afloat", as well as being the first seagoing vessels to operate with what would later become the United States Coast Guard. The commissioning pennant (or masthead pennant) is a pennant (also spelled "pendant") flown from the masthead of a warship. The history of flying a commissioning pennant dates back to the days of chivalry with their trail pendants being flown from the mastheads of ships they commanded. A schooner () is a type of sailing vessel defined by its rig: fore-and-aft rigged on all of two or more masts and, in the case of a two-masted schooner, the foremast generally being shorter than the mainmast. Pinnace (ship's Boat)
As a ship's boat, the pinnace is a light boat, propelled by oars or sails, carried aboard merchant and war vessels in the Age of Sail to serve as a tender. The pinnace was usually rowed but could be rigged with a sail for use in favorable winds. A pinnace would ferry passengers and mail, communicate between vessels, scout to sound anchorages, convey water and provisions, or carry armed sailors for boarding expeditions. Admiral Sir John Poo (or de la Poer) Beresford, 1st Baronet, (1766 – 2 October 1844) was a Royal Navy admiral, Second Sea Lord and Conservative MP. Early life Beresford was born in 1766 at Waterford. In the 18th century and most of the 19th, a sloop-of-war in the Royal Navy was a warship with a single gun deck that carried up to eighteen guns.
