Luxembourg Sinfonietta
The Luxembourg Sinfonietta is an orchestral ensemble for contemporary music in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Initially it consisted of ten to fifteen instruments, including tuba, accordion, mandolin and harpsichord, but now typically extends to clarinet, clarinet bass, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, horn, trumpets, tenor trombone, tuba, violins, viola, violoncello, piano, mandolin, accordion and percussion. History Founded in 1999 by the Luxembourg composer Marcel Wengler, it strives to make contemporary music more generally accessible while promoting Luxembourg composers, especially to foreign audiences. Key events here have been performances at the ISCM "World Music Days 2000" in Luxembourg and at Expo 2000 in Hanover. Lin Wang (composer)
Lin Wang ( (original name), also called ), is a Chinese composer. Lin Wang was born in Dalian, China, in 1976. Biography Lin Wang studied music composition at Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing (1996–2001). Later she studied composition and music theory at Hochschule für Musik Saar with Theo Brandmüller, and electronic music at IRCAM at the Centre Georges Pompidou in France. She also studied theatrical philosophy in music theater at University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, under Chaya Czernowin. In 2008, her impromptu chamber ensemble ''JI LI GU LU'' was premiered at the 10th Munich Biennale. It was selected for performance again in the same year at the Biennale di Venezia and the Bregenz Festival. In 2010, her opera "Die Quelle" (The Source) was premiered at the 11th Munich Biennale. Alice Ping Yee Ho (born 1960) is a Canadian pianist and composer, considered to be "among the most important composers writing in this country". She was born in Hong Kong and earned a BMus in composition from Indiana University and a MMus in composition from the University of Toronto. Gordon Hamilton (born 1982) is an Australian music, Australian composer and conductor. Since 2009, he has been the Artistic Director of The Australian Voices. He was born in Newcastle, New South Wales, Newcastle, lived and worked in Bremen, Germany for five years as a conducting, conductor and composer and he now lives in Brisbane. He studied in Australia at the University of Newcastle, Australia, University of Newcastle Conservatorium from 2000 to 2004, majoring in composition with Nigel Butterley and piano with Carmel Lutton. Robert Lemay (born February 13, 1960) is a Canadian composer of solo, chamber and orchestral works. Early years and education Born in Montreal, Lemay studied at Laval University, where he received his Master's degree (M.Mus.) under François Morel. He completed a doctorate (D.Mus.) at the Université de Montréal under Michel Longtin in 1994. He also spent a year at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he studied with David Felder and attended seminars given by Brian Ferneyhough, Louis Andriessen, and Donald Erb.
