Luodong River
Luodong Township () is an urban township in the central part of Yilan County, Taiwan. Luodong is the smallest township in the county. Naming Its name and former name () derive from the Kavalan word '' rutung'', meaning "monkey", referring to a large population of monkeys there half century ago. History Qing Dynasty In 1804, Pingpu tribe chiefs Pan Xian Wen and Maoge from Changhua led a group of people to settle in the Luodong area, where they established Alishih and Ashushih communities and developed agriculture on a large scale. In 1812, Qing Dynasty officer Fan Bang Gan was assigned to Luodong. Two years later, Han settlers entered the region to begin clearing and developing the area. The Pingpu tribe and Han settlers fought over land ownership but eventually they ended up working together to develop Luodong. Township (Taiwan)
Townships are the third-level administrative subdivisions of counties of the Republic of China (Taiwan), along with county-administered cities. After World War II, the townships were established from the following conversions on the Japanese administrative divisions: Although local laws do not enforce strict standards for classifying them, generally urban townships have a larger population and more business and industry than rural townships, but not to the extent of county-administered cities. Under townships, there is still the village as the fourth or basic level of administration. Lanyang Plain
Yilan Plain (), also called the Lanyang Plain (), or historically Kabalan (), Kapsulan (), Komalan () is a plain in Yilan County, Taiwan. The plain has an alluvial fan which formed by Lanyang River. The plain was formed in the shape of nearly equilateral triangle. The broad and flat feature of this plan has made transportation so convenient in the region which drew large population to the towns and cities in the area. The plain was inhabited by the Kavalans, an aboriginal group which mostly had migrated to southern places such as Hualien and Taitung. Huang Chun-ming
Huang Chun-ming (; born 13 February 1935) is a Taiwanese literary figure and teacher. Huang writes mainly about the tragic and sometimes humorous lives of ordinary Taiwanese people, and many of his short stories have been turned into films, including ''The Sandwich Man'' (1983). Chen Chin-te
Chen Chin-te (; born 26 September 1961), also known as Derek Chen, is a Taiwanese politician. Career Chen attended National Taipei University of Technology and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Through his activism, Chen became known as the "oldest grandson of the tangwai movement." He worked as Yu Shyi-kun's secretary when Yu was Yilan County magistrate. Chen ended his graduate studies without earning a doctoral degree, to run in the 1991 National Assembly elections. While a member of the National Assembly, Chen also served as Democratic Progressive Party caucus leader. Within the DPP, Chen was affiliated with the New Tide faction. In 2000, Chen helped pass laws that reduced the power of the legislative body. Most of the assembly's responsibilities were delegated to the Legislative Yuan. Yilan Line
The Yilan Line () is the northern section of the Eastern Line of the Taiwan Railways Administration in Taiwan. It has a length of 95 km. History This railroad was completed in 1924 as the Giran-sen during Imperial Japanese rule over Taiwan. It was expanded to two tracks in the early 1980s. In 2000, it was electrified between Badu and Luodong, while the remaining part was completed in 2003. On 4 December 2020, a landslide buried a section of the line between Houtong and Ruifang Station in Ruifang District, resulting in the rail service disruption along the line. Emergency work was then carried out to remove the 10,000 m3 debris and to restore the overhead line. On 14 December, the line was fully reopened for service. Luodong Sports Park () is a park in Luodong Township, Yilan County, Taiwan.
