Luling Independent School District
Luling Independent School District is a public school district based in Luling, Texas (USA). Located in Caldwell County, a small portion of the district extends into Guadalupe County. It also serves the unincorporated communities of Joliet, McNeil, and Soda Springs. Luling, Texas
Luling is a city in Caldwell and Guadalupe counties, Texas, United States, along the San Marcos River. The population as of the 2020 census was 5,599. History The town was named after a New York banker, Charles Luling. He was a personal friend of Thomas Wentworth Pierce and provided the financing for the railroad as well the purchase of the land that became Luling. Luling was founded in 1874 as a railroad town and became a rowdy center for the cattle drivers on the Chisholm Trail. Contempt of the law by the cowboys helped Luling become known as the "toughest town in Texas". After the great cattle drives ended in the late 1880s, Luling quieted down to a town of about 500 and cotton ruled the local economy. Caldwell County, Texas
Caldwell County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 45,883. Its county seat is Lockhart. The county was founded in 1848 and named after Mathew Caldwell, a ranger captain who fought in the Battle of Plum Creek against the Comanches and against Santa Anna's armies during the Texas Revolution. Guadalupe County (, ) is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 172,706. The county seat is Seguin. The county was founded in 1846 and is named after Guadalupe River. Guadalupe County is part of the San Antonio metropolitan statistical area. Joliet, Texas
Joliet is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Caldwell County, Texas, Caldwell County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, there were no population estimates made available to the community in 2000. It is located within the Greater Austin metropolitan area. History H.A. Loehman was one of the first to settle in Joliet and built a home on Plum Creek (Texas), Plum Creek in 1846. A post office was established at Joliet in 1901 and remained in operation until 1903. It was then served by a later rural mail route. A small boom occurred in the community after oil was discovered there in 1923 but faded in the 1930s. It only had 10 inhabitants in the early 1930s. McNeil is an unincorporated community in Caldwell County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 200 in 2000. It is located within the Greater Austin metropolitan area. History A Baptist church called the McNeil Creek Baptist Church was established in the community in June 1888. It was reported to have 200 members in 1983. A church and a cemetery marked the community on county highway maps in the late 1980s. The population of the community was 200 through 2000. Soda Springs, Texas
Soda Springs is an unincorporated community in Caldwell County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, there were no population estimates made to the community in 2000. It is located within the Greater Austin metropolitan area. History Soda Springs was once known as Sour Springs and a post office with that name was established there in 1857 and remained in operation until 1880. It was named that because the nearby springs had a weird taste to it caused by a high sodium carbonate content in the water. It was then changed to Soda Springs. A church and a few scattered houses marked the community on county maps in the 1940s. The community's local springs flowed at a rate of 6.3 liters per second in 1946 but then slowed to only .13 liters per second in 1975.
