Joliet, Texas
Joliet is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Caldwell County, Texas, Caldwell County, in the U.S. state of Texas. According to the Handbook of Texas, there were no population estimates made available to the community in 2000. It is located within the Greater Austin metropolitan area. History H.A. Loehman was one of the first to settle in Joliet and built a home on Plum Creek (Texas), Plum Creek in 1846. A post office was established at Joliet in 1901 and remained in operation until 1903. It was then served by a later rural mail route. A small boom occurred in the community after oil was discovered there in 1923 but faded in the 1930s. It only had 10 inhabitants in the early 1930s. It had separate churches for African American, Mexican American, and White people living in the community in the 1940s. There were several businesses and homes featured on county highway maps. Luling, Texas
Luling is a city in Caldwell and Guadalupe counties, Texas, United States, along the San Marcos River. The population as of the 2020 census was 5,599. History The town was named after a New York banker, Charles Luling. He was a personal friend of Thomas Wentworth Pierce and provided the financing for the railroad as well the purchase of the land that became Luling. Luling was founded in 1874 as a railroad town and became a rowdy center for the cattle drivers on the Chisholm Trail. Contempt of the law by the cowboys helped Luling become known as the "toughest town in Texas". After the great cattle drives ended in the late 1880s, Luling quieted down to a town of about 500 and cotton ruled the local economy. A pumpjack is the overground drive for a reciprocating piston pump in an oil well. It is used to mechanically lift liquid out of the well if there is not enough bottom hole pressure for the liquid to flow all the way to the surface. The arrangement is often used for onshore wells. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.
