Luis De Olona
Luis de Olona y Gaeta (Málaga, 1823 – Barcelona, 1863) was a playwright, theater impresario and librettist of a number of Spanish zarzuelas by the mid of 19th-century Spain. He was a very prolific playwright, writing comedies, farces and operettas, arranged by famous composers of the zarzuela genre. His theatrical approach is said to be very weak in construction and plentiful in improbabilities, so much that it was largely criticized by Narciso Díaz de Escovar and Francisco Javier Lasso de la Vega. Luis de Olona, brother to José de Olona, lived a bohemian life in his native Málaga before settling in Madrid, where he directed small theaters and worked in the press. Málaga
Málaga (, ) is a municipality of Spain, capital of the Province of Málaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. Cristóbal Oudrid
Cristóbal (Carlos Domingo Romualdo y Ricardo) Oudrid y Segura (, 7 February 1825 – 13 March 1877) was a Spanish pianist, conductor, and composer. He is noted for his many contributions to the formation and development of the zarzuela genre in Spain during the second half of the 19th century. He was a gifted musician—but with little technical knowledge, which he bragged about to receive more credit from others with relation to his creations. This habit earned him the scathing criticism of people like Antonio Peña y Goñi who, nevertheless, praised the bright, sensual and cheerful ease with which Oudrid used to bring to life the true meaning of the Spanish song. During a successful career of more than 25 years, Oudrid produced over a hundred works, many in association with other composers. El Juramento (zarzuela)
El juramento (Spanish for ''The Oath'') is a 3-act zarzuela by Joaquín Gaztambide for libretto by Luis de Olona. Its central character (the Marquis) is taken from a French operetta ''La Rose de Peronne'' by Eugène Scribe and Adolphe Adam (1840), but the new work is entirely original. It was first staged on 20 December 1858 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela.This date is printed on the title page of the 1858 libretto edition. It is thought to be among Gaztambide's best compositions and one of the most important scores in the history of zarzuela. Antonio García Gutiérrez
Antonio García Gutiérrez (4 October 1813 in Chiclana de la Frontera, Cádiz (province), Cádiz26 August 1884 in Madrid) was a Spanish Romanticism, Romantic dramatist. Biography After having studied medicine in his native town, García Gutiérrez moved to Madrid in 1833 and earned a meager living by translating plays of Eugène Scribe and Alexandre Dumas, père. Lacking success, he was on the point of enlisting when he suddenly sprang into fame as the author of a play called ''El trovador'' (''The Troubadour''), which was played for the first time on 1 March 1836. His next great success was ''Simón Bocanegra'', in 1843.
