Luino (Western Lombard: ''Lüin'') is a small town and ''comune'' near the border with Switzerland on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore, in the Province of Varese (Lombardy, northern Italy). Luino received the honorary title of city with a presidential decree in 1969. Luino is well known for its weekly market, currently held on Wednesdays, which is purportedly the largest of its kind in Europe. Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) is the Italian railway infrastructure manager, subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), a state-owned holding company. RFI is the owner of Italy's railway network, it provides signalling, maintenance and other services for the railway network. It also operates train ferries between the Italian Peninsula and Sicily. Luino–Oleggio railway is a railway line in Lombardy, Italy. The railway line was opened on 4 December 1882, in order to provide a second access to the Gotthard railway. The Novara–Laveno segment was closed to passenger traffic from 12 December 2013. A replacement bus now only serves the section between Sesto Calende and Laveno. TILO ( it, Treni Regionali Ticino Lombardia) is a limited company established in 2004 as a joint venture between Italian railway company Trenord and Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS); both companies participate in the equity of TILO SA with participation of 50%. The company's goal is to develop the regional cross-border traffic between the canton of Ticino and the Region of Lombardy. In 2009 the company carried 6 million passengers. Trenord is a railway company which is responsible for the operation of regional passenger trains in Lombardy. The company was established by the two main railway companies in Lombardy, Trenitalia and Ferrovie Nord Milano (FNM), to manage train operations in the region. The equity is equally divided between the two companies. History ''Trenitalia LeNord'' (TLN) was founded in Milan on 4 August 2009 from the merging of LeNord, company owned by FNM, and the Lombardy regional division of Trenitalia.
