Luigi Ferraro (naval Officer)
Luigi Ferraro (3 November 1914, Quarto dei Mille – 5 January 2006, Genoa) was an officer of the Royal Italian Navy and pioneer of Italian submarine warfare, most notable for his service with the commando frogman unit Decima Flottiglia MAS. In 1943 in Turkey he attacked four ships carrying chromium ore. He was decorated with the gold medal for military valor for having sunk three enemy ships alone. Ferraro designed a number of innovations in scuba diving equipment for Cressi-sub, and in 1962 with Carlos Reinberg, he founded Technisub, a manufacturer of various underwater diving equipment. Cressi made and launched Luigi Ferraro's two most important innovations during the early 1950s. Quarto dei Mille is a residential district in the east of Genoa. Overlooking the sea and between the " Sturla" and "Quinto al mare" districts, it was originally called the "Quarto al mare". The ''Regia Marina'' (; ) was the navy of the Kingdom of Italy (''Regno d'Italia'') from 1861 to 1946. The ''Decima Flottiglia MAS'' (''Decima Flottiglia Motoscafi Armati Siluranti'', also known as ''La Decima'' or Xª MAS) (Italian for "10th Assault Vehicle Flotilla") was an Italian flotilla, with commando frogman unit, of the ''Regia Marina'' (Italian Royal Navy) created during the Fascist regime. The acronym '' MAS'' also refers to various light torpedo boats used by the Regia Marina during World War I and World War II. Decima MAS was active during the Battle of the Mediterranean and took part in a number of daring raids on Allied shipping. Ear Equalization
Ear clearing or clearing the ears or equalization is any of various maneuvers to equalize the pressure in the middle ear with the outside pressure, by letting air enter along the Eustachian tubes, as this does not always happen automatically when the pressure in the middle ear is lower than the outside pressure. This need can arise in scuba diving, freediving/ spearfishing, skydiving, fast descent in an aircraft, fast descent in a mine cage, and being put into pressure in a caisson or similar pressure-bearing structure, or sometimes even simply travelling at fast speeds in an automobile. People who do intense weight lifting, like squats, may experience sudden conductive hearing loss due to air pressure building up inside the ear.
