''Lucía'' is a 1968 Cuban black-and-white drama film directed by Humberto Solás, and written by Solás, Julio García Espinosa and Nelson Rodríguez (film writer), Nelson Rodríguez. It was the winner of the Golden Prize and the Prix International Federation of Film Critics, FIPRESCI at the 6th Moscow International Film Festival in 1969. The film is a period piece, told in three stories in different moments of History of Cuba, Cuban history (the Spanish–American War#Cuban struggle for independence, Cuban war of independence, the History of Cuba#Cuba in the early 20th century, 1930s during the regime of Gerardo Machado and the History of Cuba#Revolutionary Cuba, 1960s), all as seen through the eyes of a different woman, each named Lucía. Humberto Solás
Humberto Solás (4 December 1941 – 18 September 2008) was a Cuban film director, credited with directing the film ''Lucía'' (1968), which explored the lives of Cuban women during different periods in Cuban history. His cinematic style borrows from Luchino Visconti's mise en scene and is permeated by sometimes heavy melodrama. He started making shorts at a very young age and directed his first medium length film ''Manuela'' in 1967. The success of this film led him to direct ''Lucía'', told in three stories in different moments of Cuban history, all seen through the eyes of a different woman named Lucia. Solás won 13 awards for filmmaking and been nominated for an additional nine. His 1968 film ''Lucía'' won the Golden Prize and the Prix FIPRESCI at the 6th Moscow International Film Festival. Camilo Vives
Camilo Vives (c. 1942 – March 14, 2013) was a Cuban film producer. He produced more than forty Cuban films during his career, including '' Lucía'', released in 1968, and ''Fresa y Chocolate'' (''Strawberry and Chocolate'') in 1994. Vives joined the Instituto Cubano del Arte y la Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC), the state-controlled film arm of the Cuban government, which had been established in 1959 following the Cuban Revolution. He became head of the ICAIC's production studios during the 1970s. In 2001, he was promoted to head of the International Production division of the ICAIC. Vives produced films by Cuban and Spanish film directors. His credits with Cuban directors included '' Lucía'', '' Miel para Oshun'' and ''Barrio Cuba'' for director Humberto Solás; and ''Life is to Whistle'' in 1998 and ''Suite Habana'' in 2003 for director '' Fernando Pérez''. 2017 Cannes Film Festival
The 70th Cannes Film Festival took place from 17 to 28 May 2017, in Cannes, France. Spanish film director and screenwriter Pedro Almodóvar was the President of the Jury for the festival and Italian actress Monica Bellucci hosted the opening and closing ceremonies. '' Ismael's Ghosts'', directed by French director Arnaud Desplechin, was the opening film for the festival. The festival celebrated its 70th edition. In late March 2017, the official poster of the festival was revealed featuring Italian actress Claudia Cardinale. The actress responded, "'I am honoured and proud to be flying the flag for the 70th Festival de Cannes, and delighted with this choice of photo. It's the image I myself have of the Festival, of an event that illuminates everything around … Happy anniversary!" The World Cinema Project (WCP), formerly World Cinema Foundation, is a non-profit organization devoted to the preservation and restoration of neglected world cinema, founded by Martin Scorsese. History Founded in 2007 as the World Cinema Foundation by American filmmaker Martin Scorsese, it was inspired by the work of The Film Foundation in the United States, a similar venture which Scorsese founded with George Lucas, Stanley Kubrick, Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood in 1990. Idalia Anreus
Idalia Anreus (1932 – January 3, 1998) was a Cuban actress who worked in both theatre and film. A self-taught actress, she began working in children's theatre through her younger sister, theatre actress Gladys Anreus. In the late 1960s and early 1970s she worked in the Teatro Estudio theatre group, and by the late 1970s she had moved on to the Teatro Politico Bertold Brecht group. In 1968 she married film director Manuel Octavio Gómez; she would appear in leading roles in many of his films. Her first film was the 1966 ''La salación'', a comedy directed by her future husband, where two of her sisters, Dinorah and Nereyda also acted. She appeared in eleven films between 1966 and 1983. Throat cancer forced her retirement from acting by the mid-1980s. She died of a heart attack when she was visiting her sisters in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
