Lucy Wilson Rice
Lucy Wilson Rice (March 14, 1874 – March 12, 1963) was an American artist known for her portraits of notable people from Texas and her Texan landscapes. Biography Born Lucy Wilson in Troy, Alabama, she graduated from Baylor Female College with a degree in art (1891). She later obtained further art training from Wayman Elbridge Adams, who painted her portrait. She married Charles Donnell Rice in 1895. In 1900, Rice moved to Austin, Texas, where Charles had a teaching position at the University of Texas. She later lived for a period in Paris before returning to Austin and opening a studio. She stopped painting in 1952 due to failing eyesight. In addition to landscapes and marine paintings, Rice painted portraits of Vice-President John Nance Garner and Texas governors Dan Moody, Miriam A. Wayman Elbridge Adams
Wayman Elbridge Adams (September 23, 1883 – April 7, 1959) was an American painter best known for his portraits of famous people. His skill at painting at high speed earned him the nickname 'Lightning'. Life He was born in Muncie, Indiana, and his early interest in drawing and painting was encouraged by his father, an amateur artist. Adams later received formal instruction in the arts at the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis. Thereafter, he continued his studies under the guidance of painter William Merritt Chase in Italy (1910) and Robert Henri in Spain (1912). In Italy, he met artist Margaret Graham Burroughs, and they married in 1918. On returning to the United States from his European studies, Adams opened a studio in Indianapolis, Indiana. He subsequently lived and worked in New York and California. Dan Moody
Daniel James Moody Jr. (June 1, 1893May 22, 1966), was an American lawyer and Democratic politician. Originally from Taylor, Texas, he served as the 30th governor of Texas between 1927 and 1931. At the age of 33, he was elected and took office as the youngest governor in Texas history. After his two terms as governor, he returned to private law practice and continued to prosecute and represent various functions of the US government in his later life. Early life Moody was born on June 1, 1893 in Taylor, Texas.
