Dan Moody
Daniel James Moody Jr. (June 1, 1893May 22, 1966), was an American lawyer and Democratic politician. Originally from Taylor, Texas, he served as the 30th governor of Texas between 1927 and 1931. At the age of 33, he was elected and took office as the youngest governor in Texas history. After his two terms as governor, he returned to private law practice and continued to prosecute and represent various functions of the US government in his later life. Early life Moody was born on June 1, 1893 in Taylor, Texas. He was the son of Taylor's mayor, justice of the peace, and school board chairman, Daniel James Moody, who was one of the town's first settlers in 1876. His mother, Nannie Elizabeth Robertson, was a local school teacher when Moody married her in 1890. Barry Miller (politician)
Barry Miller (December 25, 1864 – June 20, 1933) was a Texas state legislator and Lieutenant Governor from 1925 to 1931 serving under Governors Miriam A. Ferguson and Dan Moody. Early life Miller was born on December 25, 1864, in Barnwell, South Carolina, the son of Dr. Thomas Johnson Miller and Rachel Barry. After his father, a physician educated at the Medical College of Philadelphia and a medical officer in the Carolina Dragoons, was killed in the American Civil War, Miller left for Washington, D.C. As a young boy, Miller worked there as a printer's devil for the ''Washington Post'', and later worked as a page in the United States Senate, meeting many national leaders of the era. Eventually, Miller traveled west to Dallas, where he studied law in the firm of Robertson & Coke. Alfred Emanuel Smith (December 30, 1873 – October 4, 1944) was an American politician who served four terms as Governor of New York and was the Democratic Party's candidate for president in 1928. The son of an Irish-American mother and a Civil War–veteran Italian-American father, Smith was raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan near the Brooklyn Bridge.
