Lucien Hubbard
Lucien Hubbard (December 22, 1888 – December 31, 1971) was a film producer and screenwriter. Biography Hubbard is best known for producing the 1927 film ''Wings (1927 film), Wings'', for which he received the first Academy Award for Best Picture. Lucien produced and or wrote ninety-two films over the course of his career. He lived in the same house in Beverly Hills until the day he died; he was an avid polo player and would frequently ride out of the stables located, in those days, at the rear of his Hillcrest Road property, to Will Rogers' house in the Palisades; he also occasionally rode his horse to Paramount Studios where he had been elevated to president shortly after the Academy Award-winning ''Wings'' which he produced, was released. ''The Climbers'' is a 1919 American silent comedy-drama film produced and distributed by the Vitagraph Company of America. It is based on Clyde Fitch's 1901 Broadway play. This film was directed by Tom Terriss and stars Corinne Griffith. A previous version of Fitch's play had been made in 1915 as '' The Climbers'' with Gladys Hanson and a later version in 1927 again as '' The Climbers'' with Irene Rich. A print is preserved in the Library of Congress. They wed in secret through the aid of Cod Dugan, a poolroom operator. When Bee is about to become a mother, the two are unable to provide proof of the marriage. ''The Trap'' is a 1922 American silent Western film directed by Robert Thornby and starring Lon Chaney and Alan Hale. It was released by Universal Pictures. The film was released in the United Kingdom under the title ''Heart of a Wolf''. (Some sources still list the film under that title.) One working title for the film was ''Wolfbreed''. The film was re-released in the U.S. in 1926. The screenplay was written by George C. Hull, based on a story idea that was co-written by Lon Chaney. A lobby card exists from the film, as well as a photo of Chaney as Gaspard. The film was finished in September 1921, but was only released on May 9, 1922 in New York City. The film stars Chaney as the leading character, Alan Hale as his rival, and Irene Rich as the female lead. Chaney had also appeared in an unrelated film of the same name in 1913.
