picture info	Lucca Comics Awards Lucca Comics & Games is an annual comic book and gaming convention in Lucca, Italy, traditionally held at the end of October, in conjunction with All Saints' Day. It is the largest comics festival in Europe, and the second biggest in the world after the Comiket. History The Salone Internazionale del Comics ("International Congress of Comics") was launched by a Franco-Italian partnership, consisting of Italians Rinaldo Traini and Romano Calisi and Frenchman (forming the International Congress of Cartoonists and Animators) in 1965 in Bordighera. In 1966, it moved to a small piazza in the center of Lucca, and grew in size and importance over the years. Funding issues reduced the frequency of the festival to every two years, beginning in 1977. In the 1980s, the festival was moved to a sports center outside the city walls, where it remained until 1992, when it was moved to another city. 	San Michele In Foro San Michele in Foro is a Roman Catholic basilica church in Lucca, Tuscany, central Italy, built over the ancient Roman forum. Until 1370 it was the seat of the ''Consiglio Maggiore'' (Major Council), the commune's most important assembly. It is dedicated to Archangel Michael. History The church is mentioned for the first time in 795 as ''ad foro'' (in the forum). It was rebuilt after 1070 by will of Pope Alexander II. Notable is the façade, from the 13th century, with a large series of sculptures and inlays, numerous of which remade in the 19th century. The lower part has a series of blind arcades, the central of which includes the main portal. The upper part, built using plenty of iron materials to counter wind, has four orders of small loggias. 	Dan O'Neill Dan O'Neill (born April 21, 1942) is an American underground cartoonist, creator of the syndicated comic strip ''Odd Bodkins'' and founder of the underground comics collective the Air Pirates. Education O'Neill attended the University of San Francisco, making contributions to the ''San Francisco Foghorn'', the school newspaper. ''Odd Bodkins'' ''Odd Bodkins'' began its run in 1964 in the ''San Francisco Chronicle'' when O'Neill was 21 years old. The strip consisted of the adventures of Hugh and Fred Bird. During the course of the strip's run, it increasingly reflected O'Neill's life in and his critique of 1960s counterculture. Though he considered himself a strong writer, O'Neill said of his artwork, "I had a very weak line. Either that or palsy." Biography Buzzelli was born in Rome into a family in which his grandfather had been a decorator, his father a painter, and his mother a model. He frequented the Academy of St. Luke and initially decided to follow his father's steps. Later, however, he entered the workshop of Rino Albertarelli, one of the main Italian comic book artists of the time, debuting in the 1950s with the magazine ''Zorro''; he also provided covers for magazines of the publisher Fratelli Spada.
