Loy Stewart
David Loy Stewart (19 May 1927 – 19 August 2010) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1950s. Stewart enlisted in the Australian Army shortly after his eighteenth birthday and served until 1947. Stewart came to Geelong from Albury and in his brief career was used mostly in the ruck and defence. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. These positions describe both the player's main role and by implication their location on the ground. As the game has evolved, tactics and team formations have changed, and the names of the positions and the duties involved have evolved too. There are 18 positions in Australian rules football, not including four (sometimes 6–8) interchange players who may replace another player on the ground at any time during play.
