The Lower Rhine Cup (German: ''Niederrheinpokal'') is a German football club Cup competition open to teams from the Lower Rhine region of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The competition is one of the 21 regional cup competitions of German football and acts as a qualifier for the following seasons' German Cup. The competition is sponsored by the Diebels brewery and carries the official name ''Diebels Niederrheinpokal''. FC Remscheid
FC Remscheid is a German association football club from Remscheid, North Rhine-Westphalia formed on 1 July 1990 out of the merger of ''BV Lüttringhausen'' and ''VfB Marathon Remscheid''. History Predecessor side ''Marathon'' was formed in 1906 and ''BV Lüttringhausen'' was founded 25 October 1908 in the northern city district of the same name. ''VfB'' merged with a club called ''BV Remscheid'' in 1971 while ''Lüttringhausen'' became the similarly named ''BVL 08 Remscheid'' in July 1985. Both clubs played primarily as third division sides, although ''BVL Lüttringhausen'' enjoyed three seasons in the 2. Bundesliga in the 80s (1982–84 and 1987–88). Borussia Mönchengladbach II is a German association football club from the town of Mönchengladbach, North Rhine Westphalia. It is the reserve team of Borussia Mönchengladbach. The team's greatest success has been promotion to the tier four Regionalliga West where it won a league championship in 2014–15. It has also taken part in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, the German Cup, on one occasion, courtesy to a Lower Rhine Cup win. History The team first won promotion to the highest league in the Lower Rhine region, the tier four Verbandsliga Niederrhein, in 1980. VfB Speldorf is a German association football club from the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr, North Rhine-Westphalia. Sportfreunde Baumberg is a German amateur football club from the neighbourhood of Baumberg in Monheim am Rhein, North Rhine-Westphalia. Founded in 1962, the team plays in the Oberliga Niederrhein in the fifth tier of the German football league system. History As the winners of the 2013 Lower Rhine Cup, the club played in the 2013–14 DFB-Pokal. In the first round on 3 August, it lost 4–1 at home to FC Ingolstadt 04 of the 2. Bundesliga. KFC Uerdingen 05 is a German football club in the Uerdingen district of the city of Krefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia. The former Bundesliga side enjoyed its greatest successes in the 1980s but now plays in the fifth-level Oberliga. History The club was founded on 17 November 1905 as Fußball-Club Uerdingen 05. Schwarz-Weiß Essen is a German association football club based in Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The side has its origins in the gymnastics club ''Essener Turnerbund'' founded in 1881.
