Love Song (band)
Love Song was one of the most prominent Jesus music bands, and one of the first Christian rock bands. They released two studio albums—''Love Song'' (1972) and ''Final Touch'' (1974)—and one live album—''Feel the Love'' (1977)—before disbanding. They subsequently released ''Welcome Back'' in 1994, remastered versions of the three early albums and ''Love Song: The Book of Love'' as a box set in 2010. Background Love Song was founded in 1970 by Chuck Girard, Tommy Coomes, Jay Truax, and Fred Field, prior to the conversion of any of the band members. Field and Truax were the first two to convert to Christianity and began attending a bible study at Chuck Smith's Calvary Chapel where the other two eventually "accepted Jesus". Drummer John Mehler joined within six months, but he and Field left before mid-1971 to form a new group. Bob Wall, who subsequently played guitar on all three albums, was brought in. Jay Truax
Jay Truax (born Lynwood, California) is a bass player and singer with Love Song (band), Love Song, a pioneer Christian rock group. Jay formed a Salt Lake City rock group with John Mehler and Fred Field called Spirit of Creation. Later he joined with Chuck Girard and Tommy Coomes in Love Song (band), Love Song. Truax also played bass and sang backing vocals for former Buffalo Springfield member Richie Furay between 1975 and 1977 and played on Furay's 1976 album ''I've Got a Reason''. He also played in The Surfaris, with Jim Fuller (musician), Jim Fuller, Jim Pash (Wipe Out (instrumental), Wipe Out), not Bob Berryhill’s spin off version of The Surfaris, off and on from 1982 until 2017. The Grateful Dead was an American rock music, rock band formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. William S. Schnee (born July 4, 1947) is an American musician, music producer, and audio engineer. Schnee has been nominated 11 times for the Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical Grammy Award and worked on a multitude of other Grammy nominated and awarded albums. He has won two Grammys, an Emmy for Outstanding Sound for a Television Special, and a Dove Award. John Patitucci (born December 22, 1959) is an American jazz bassist and composer. Biography John James Patitucci was born in Brooklyn, New York. When he was 12, he bought his first bass and decided on his career. He listened to bass parts in R&B songs on the radio and on his grandfather's jazz records. He cites as influences Oscar Peterson's albums with Ray Brown and Wes Montgomery's with Ron Carter. Calvary Chapel is an association of evangelical churches, maintains a number of radio stations around the world and operates many local Calvary Chapel Bible College programs. Beginning in 1965 in Southern California, this fellowship of churches grew out of Chuck Smith's Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. John Mehler
John Mehler (born August 27, 1948 in Long Beach, California), is a drummer for Love Song, Spirit of Creation, Noah and other bands. Biography Mehler graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1969 and soon thereafter moved to Salt Lake City with two musician friends, Chuck Fraher and Jay Truax, to form Spirit of Creation. While Mehler was a member of Spirit of Creation the group opened for some of the more popular groups of the day including Three Dog Night, Spirit and the Grateful Dead. In the summer of 1970 he joined Chuck Girard and Tommy Coomes in Love Song, one of the pioneers of Contemporary Christian Music (CCM). Mehler has worked with artists as far ranging as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Lee Ritenour, Richie Furay and Phil Keaggy. Charles Ward "Chuck" Smith (June 25, 1927 – October 3, 2013) was an American pastor who founded the Calvary Chapel movement.
