Louisiana Highway 3081 (LA 3081) is a state highway in Louisiana that serves St. Tammany Parish. It spans a total of largely over a former alignment of both U.S. 11 and U.S. 90 in the town of Pearl River. Route description From the south, LA 3081 begins at an intersection with U.S. 11 and LA 41 (Watts Road) near the southern limit of Pearl River. It heads northward along Main Street, paralleling Interstate 59 (I-59) and U.S. 11 to the west, to a junction with LA 3081 Spur at Pine Street. At this point, the route turns east briefly to an interchange with southbound I-59 and U.S. 11, which are concurrent. LA 3081 then turns northeast alongside the interstate, looping back southwest underneath the I-59/U.S. 11 West Pearl River bridge to the other half of the interchange, serving northbound I-59/U.S. 11 traffic, and reaching its northern terminus. Pearl River, Louisiana
Pearl River is a town in St. Tammany Parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 2,506 at the 2010 U.S. census, and 2,618 at the 2020 population estimates program. It is part of the New Orleans– Metairie–Kenner metropolitan statistical area. History The community that is today Pearl River was originally known as Halloo, a moniker it reputedly garnered from loggers yelling to one another as they labored along the nearby Pearl River. The town was founded in 1859. Early Halloo was a small railroad town, located at the junction of the Northeastern and Poitevent and Favre's East Louisiana Railroads. In 1886 a train station was constructed at the site, and two years later Samuel Russ Poitevent (June 4, 1852 - June 3, 1904), established the first store in the village. Louisiana Highway 41 (LA 41) is a state highway located in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. It runs in a north–south direction from the junction of U.S. Highway 11 (US 11) and LA 3081 in Pearl River to LA 21 in Bush. The route parallels the Louisiana– Mississippi state line, located along the Pearl River. It is essentially the middle link in a route connecting the Slidell area with the Washington Parish city of Bogalusa. Its southern terminus is located just west of an interchange at the convergence of Interstate 59 (I-59) and US 11 in the town of Pearl River. After traveling along the west side of the town's corporate limits, LA 41 heads north through the small unincorporated communities of Hickory, Talisheek, and Bush. Pearlington is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States, on U.S. Route 90, along the Pearl River, at the Louisiana state line. It is part of the Gulfport– Biloxi, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,684 at the 2000 census. Rigolets Bridge
The Fort Pike Bridge (also known as the Rigolets Bridge), named after nearby Fort Pike, carries U.S. Route 90 across the Rigolets on the eastern side of Lake Pontchartrain between New Orleans and Slidell in Louisiana. It is owned and operated by Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development The bridge opened on June 9, 1930, and along with the Chef Menteur Bridge provided a free route between New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. This was the site of Jayne Mansfield's death in June 1967. A new span was constructed just to the north of the old span. 1955 Louisiana Highway Renumbering
In 1955, Louisiana passed a law that undertook a comprehensive revision to the state highway classification and numbering system. The new system designated roads by importance to travel patterns and rectified the previous numbering system under new unified designations. History Highway numbers in Louisiana first appeared in 1921, per Act 95 of the 1921 Special Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Routes 1 through 98 were defined that year. These first 98 routes remained consistent throughout the pre-1955 era. Old Spanish Trail (auto Trail)
The Old Spanish Trail (the OST) was an auto trail that once spanned the United States with almost of roadway from ocean to ocean. It crossed eight states and 67 counties along the southern border of the United States. Work on the auto highway began in 1915 at a meeting held at the Battle House Hotel in Mobile, Alabama; and, by the 1920s, the trail linked St. Augustine, Florida, to San Diego, California, with its center and headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. The work at San Antonio, and indeed nationally, was overseen by an executive committee consisting of prominent San Antonio businessmen which met at the Gunter Hotel weekly.
