Louis-Philippe-Antoine Bélanger
Louis-Philippe-Antoine Bélanger (April 17, 1907 – June 14, 1989) was a Canadian politician. He first ran for the House of Commons of Canada in 1945 in the district of Charlevoix—Saguenay under the banner of the Social Credit Party of Canada, but was defeated. Much later, in the 1962 election, he ran again in the district of Charlevoix and was elected. He was re-elected in 1963 and left Parliament before the 1965 election. Prior to his federal political experience, he was elected mayor of Beaupré, Quebec Beaupré is a '' ville'' in the Canadian province of Quebec, located in La Côte-de-Beaupré Regional County Municipality. Charlevoix (federal Electoral District)
Charlevoix was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1917 and from 1949 to 2004. The district was created in the British North America Act of 1867. It was abolished in 1914 when it was merged into Charlevoix—Montmorency. The district was created again in 1947 from Charlevoix—Saguenay. It was abolished again in 2003 when it was redistributed into Charlevoix—Montmorency and Manicouagan ridings. The best-known person to represent this riding is Brian Mulroney who was Member of Parliament for the riding, for part of his term as Prime Minister of Canada, from 1988 to 1993. The House of Commons of Canada (french: Chambre des communes du Canada) is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Together with the Crown and the Senate of Canada, they comprise the bicameral legislature of Canada. Mont-Sainte-Anne
Mont-Sainte-Anne is a ski resort in eastern Canada, located in the town of Beaupré, Quebec, about northeast of Quebec City. The mountain is part of the Laurentian mountain chain and has a summit elevation of above sea level with a vertical drop of . For day skiing, there are 71 available downhill ski trails covering the southern, northern and western sides of the mountain. For night skiing, there are 19 trails covering the southern part of the mountain only. It is the highest vertical for night skiing in Canada. The average natural snowfall at the summit is . History Ten trails and four lifts (including a gondola) were featured on the mountain inauguration day in 1966 on January 16. That year, the resort was already making its appearance on the world scene with the Du Maurier International, followed the next year by the first Canadian Winter Games. Charlevoix—Saguenay was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1925 to 1949. This riding was created in 1924 from parts of Charlevoix—Montmorency and Chicoutimi—Saguenay ridings. Martial Asselin
Joseph Ferdinand Martial Asselin, (February 3, 1924 – January 25, 2013) was a Canadian politician and the 25th Lieutenant Governor of Quebec (1990–1996). Life and career Born in La Malbaie, Quebec, the son of Ferdinand Asselin and Eugénie Tremblay, he was called to the Bar of Quebec in 1951. He became a Queen's Counsel in 1967. From 1957 to 1963, he was the mayor of La Malbaie. Asselin was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1958 election as a Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament in the Diefenbaker sweep. He represented the riding of Charlevoix. Asselin was defeated in the 1962 election. Despite no longer having a seat, Diefenbaker appointed Asselin to the position of Minister of Forestry in 1963, in the hope that he and the Tories would both win the upcoming 1963 election.
