Lou (2010 Film)
''Lou'' is a 2010 Australian film starring John Hurt, Emily Barclay and Lily Bell Tindley. Plot Young mother Rhea (Barclay) without a partner, tries to raise her three girls in their ramshackle home while trying to survive on social security. Set in sugarcane country in northern NSW, their lives are upended when Doyle (Hurt); a former merchant seaman—now in the early stages of Alzheimer's, is thrust upon them with the promise of increased benefits. Production The film was inspired by the writer-director's uncle who had Alzheimer's. John Hurt said he agreed to make the film because "this is a very nice story indeed, it’s beautifully written." The film was shot in north-eastern New South Wales. Shooting started in May 2009. John Hurt
Sir John Vincent Hurt (22 January 1940 – 25 January 2017) was an English actor whose career spanned over five decades. Hurt was regarded as one of Britain's finest actors. Director David Lynch described him as "simply the greatest actor in the world". He possessed what was described as the "most distinctive voice in Britain". Emily Barclay
Emily Barclay (born 24 October 1984) is an English-born, New Zealander and Australian AFI award winning actress. Career Emily Barclay was born in Plymouth to a General practitioner and a landscape designer, and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, where she went to an all-girls school and attended Saturday morning drama classes. At the age of nine, Barclay played Hamlet in a school production and decided to become an actress. At the age of 13, she got herself an agent and supported herself between TV movies by working in a video store. Diana Rowan (the same casting agent who discovered Anna Paquin, and Keisha Castle-Hughes) discovered Barclay in a school play and cast her as Celia in 2004's ''In My Father's Den'', that raised the actress to prominence.
