Lotos Kolej
Lotos Kolej sp. z o.o. is a Polish rail company operating as a part of Grupa Lotos JSC. Lotos Kolej is responsible for transporting Lotos Group products and delivering petrol for Rafineria Gdańska. The company precedesor, ''Zakład Transportu Kolejowego Rafinerii Gdańskiej'' operated since 20 March 2002. Since 2003 the company has the license to transport petrol along all PKP PLK lines and is operating outside the Tricity, operating refineries in Czechowice-Dziedzice, Jasło and Gorlice. Rails and rolling stock The company manages over 80 km of track on the refinery's property. The main locomotives used by the company are ST43, SM42 and SM48. Lotos Kolej uses many different kinds of oil tankers for transporting products of the Lotos Group. An oil refinery or petroleum refinery is an industrial process plant where petroleum (crude oil) is transformed and refined into useful products such as gasoline (petrol), diesel fuel, asphalt base, fuel oils, heating oil, kerosene, liquefied petroleum gas and petroleum naphtha. The byte is a unit of digital information that most commonly consists of eight bits. PKP classification system (Polish locomotive designation) is a system of assigning letters and numbers to series and individual locomotives used by the PKP - Polish national railroad operator. The system was introduced for the steam stock by the Ministry of Railways on 3 November 1922, shortly after Poland regained her independence (1918) when the Polish railroads inherited a variety of German, Austrian and Russian steam locomotives, each with its own type convention. It was put into use in 1923–1926 years. The adopted solution allows telling the locomotive type (passenger/freight/mixed), wheel arrangement, origin and some other information from the type designation. PKP Class SM48
SM48 is the name for class of Soviet diesel locomotives operating in Poland for PKP. The original designation was ТЭМ2 (TEM2), and was the Soviet-built version of the ALCO RSD-1. History The SM48 was originally put into service on the eastern Polish railways, where Russian broad gauge railways were still in use. It turned out that the locomotive fitted well within the structure gauge on standard gauge lines. Introduction Since 1976, PKP have bought 130 SM48 locomotives. There are also locos in service with other Polish operators: PCC Rail, PTKiGK Zabrze, Kopalnia Piasku Kotlarnia. SM42 is the PKP class for a Polish shunter diesel locomotive for shunting and light freight traffic, built by Fablok in Chrzanów (manufacturer's designation is Ls800E, designer's designation 6D). History The SM42 was the first Polish-designed heavier diesel-electric locomotive and was the most numerous one in its country of origin. Introduction The technical documentation for this locomotive was developed in 1958-1962 by the state Central Construction Bureau of Railway Stock Industry (CBKPTK) in Poznań, as type 6D. The production was given over to the Fablok Locomotive Factory in Chrzanów, where it was designated Ls800E (meaning an 800 HP diesel locomotive with electric transmission). ST43 is the name for a Romanian diesel locomotive, produced by Electroputere, exported to and operating in Poland. It was made for the purpose of heavy transport. History In the early 1960s a need appeared in Poland for urgent introduction of locos able to haul heavy freight. This was caused mainly by the intensification of transport on south–north line, especially from the Silesian coal mines to Szczecin and Świnoujście harbours. Lack of experience in building diesel locos for that purpose was the reason why the first ones had to be bought from Romania. Introduction In March 1965 first 30 items of 060DA locomotives (factory number of ST43) were introduced into Poznań and Szczecin, according to agreement with Romanian producer.
