Lorne Richardson
Lorne Richardson (born March 9, 1950) is a former award-winning and all-star defensive back who played in the Canadian Football League from 1973 to 1977. Though his career may have been short, Richardson is considered one of the finest Canadian-born players to play defensive back ever in the CFL. A native of Moose Jaw and a graduate of University of Colorado, Richardson took the league by storm in 1973 with 7 interceptions and 152 return yards. He was a CFL All-Star and winner of the Dr. Beattie Martin Trophy for rookie of the year in the west (and was runner up to Johnny Rodgers for the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie Award.) He was a CFL All-Star in each of his first 4 seasons, intercepting 21 passes, and played in the classic 64th Grey Cup when the Green Riders lost in the last minute. Moose Jaw
Moose Jaw is the fourth largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada. Lying on the Moose Jaw River in the south-central part of the province, it is situated on the Trans-Canada Highway, west of Regina. The 64th Grey Cup was played on November 28, 1976, at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto. The Ottawa Rough Riders defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 23–20 in what is considered one of the most thrilling Grey Cup games, featuring some of the most exciting plays in Grey Cup history. The attendance was 53,467—at the time, a Grey Cup record—due to the recently completed stadium reconfiguration to accommodate the Toronto Blue Jays, a Major League Baseball expansion team that commenced play the following year. Johnny Steven Rodgers (born July 5, 1951) is an American former football player. He played college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and won the Heisman Trophy in 1972. Rodgers played professionally in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Montreal Alouettes and in the National Football League (NFL) with the San Diego Chargers. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
