Lorenzo Álvarez Florentín
Lorenzo Álvarez Florentín (August 10, 1926 – July 9, 2014) was a Paraguayan composer and violinist. He was known for compositions such as "Soul and Violin", "Night Whistle", "La Albirroja, Go Albirroja Go" - the most popular song dedicated to the Paraguayan association football, football team - and several symphonic poems. In addition to his musical career, he took a Bachelor's degree in journalism at the Universidad Nacional de Asunción, National University of Asunción. He has now been playing the violin professionally for about seventy years. His parents were Turiano Álvarez and Ramona Florentín. Juan Cancio Barreto is a Paraguayan musician. Beginnings Barreto was born in Asunción, Paraguay on March 27, 1950. Son of Carmen Emategui and Rodolfo Barreto. He began to play the guitar at age 7, when a friend of his father, called Dario Duarte, also a musician, gave him a small guitar (requinto). His father showed him the basics and later a neighbour, Eufrasio Riveros, taught him to play. since then he never stopped playing that beautiful instrument. At the age of 11, he met Efrén Echeverría, who became his teacher and inspired him to love and appreciate the folklore of Paraguay and particularly its music. José Asunción Flores
José Asunción Flores (27 August 1904 – 16 May 1972) was a Paraguayan composer and creator of the Guarania music genre. Early life Flores was born in the poor neighborhood of La Chacarita, in Asunción. As a kid, he had to work as a paperboy and shoeshiner in order to help his mother with food and other necessities. At the early age of 11 he had already joined the Capital Police marching band and was a student of composer Félix Fernández and director Salvador Déntice. In 1922 he made his first composition, a polka song named "Manuel Gondra". The birth of the Guarania In 1925, after experimenting with different arrangements of the old Paraguayan song ''Maerãpa Reikuaase'' he managed to create a new genre, which he called '' Guarania''. Florentín Giménez
Florentín Giménez (14 March 1925 – 11 March 2021) was a Paraguayan pianist and composer. Biography Giménez was born in Ybycuí, Paraguarí Department. In his teens, he learned to play the drums and became a member of the Orchestra of Popular Music, directed by Severo Rodas. In 1945, at the age of 20, he learned to play the piano and became a pianist in Ramón Reyes’ Orchestra, where he stayed until 1947, when the Paraguayan Civil War forced him to leave the country and settle in Argentina. After the war, he returned to Paraguay and formed his first orchestra, “Ritmos de América” (America’s Rhythms). In 1950, he formed the 14-member orchestra “Florentín Giménez y su típica Moderna”, which featured singers Oscar Escobar, Juan Carlos Miranda, Carlos Centurión, and Jorge Alonso.
