Lorentz Mortensen Angell
Lorentz Mortensen Angell (9 March 1626 – 30 July 1697) was a merchant and landowner in Norway. He was born at Angeln east of Flensburg in Southern Schleswig. Around 1650, he settled in Trondheim when many merchants and traders from Flensburg were taking part in the fishing trade along the Norwegian coast. He built up a considerable fortune as a merchant and ship owner. Angell (family)
Angell is a family in Norway. In the 1650s the family came as merchants to Trondheim, where they took their current name. From there parts of the family entered the proprietarian aristocracy in Central und Northern Norway. The part of the family which remained in Trondheim gained a prominent position still visible in the city today, especially through the Thomas Angell Foundations, one of the biggest landowners in Trøndelag and among other activities running the charity Thomas Angell House. Name and coat of arms The name derives from ''Angel'', the Danish variant of the landscape Angeln in today's Germany. In Norway the name was interpreted as ''angel'', i.e. a fishhook. Albert Angell
Albert Angell (4 November 1660 – 13 September 1705) was a Norwegian civil servant, landowner and businessman. He served as Mayor of Trondheim, Norway. Angell was born in Trondheim, Norway. Thomas Angell (born 1692)
Thomas Angell (29 December 1692 – 19 September 1767) was a Norwegian merchant, estate owner, mine owner and philanthropist. Biography Thomas Angell was born in Trondheim, the son of merchant Albert Lorenzen Angell. He was educated in theology in Copenhagen. Angell inherited a large fortune from his parents, who belonged to a wealthy trading family with roots in Southern Schleswig. Together with his brother Lorentz Angell (1690–1751), Thomas Angell managed the estate of the Angell family. The business activities eventually included saw mills, shipping companies and the export of various commodities. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991).
