Loredano Ugolini
Loredano Ugolini (born 17 December 1927) is an Italian comic artist and illustrator. Life and career Born in Florence, Ugolini started his career in 1948, illustrating several book covers for the publisher Salani; there he became friends with the comic artist , a collaborator of the publishing house, who introduced him to the comics publisher . He debuted as comic artist with some short stories published in ''Albi dell'Intrepido'', and then he got a large success with the comic series ', he co-created with and which was released in the magazine ''Intrepido'', and with '' Cristal'', published in ''Il Monello''. In the following years Ugolini created and illustrated several series including ''Lobo Kid'' (with stories by Gianluigi Bonelli, published by Sergio Bonelli Editore), ''Tony Gagliardo'' (another collaboration with Mancuso for ''Intrepido''), ''Rox'' (with stories written by ), as well as a number of comics for the British publisher Fleetway Publications. Intrepido
''Intrepido'' (Italian language, Italian for "Intrepid"), also referred to as ''L'Intrepido'', was a weekly comic magazine published by Casa Editrice Moderna between 1935 and 1998. History and profile The first issue was published on 23 February 1935. It was the first comics magazine to publish only comics by Italian artists; a few foreign comics were introduced in 1936, before disappearing in 1939. During the first phase in its history, the magazine got a large success with a series of comics inspired to 1800s feuilleton literature. After an interruption in 1943 due to World War II, it resumed its publications in April 1945, then continuing, without interruption, until January 1998. In the 1960s the magazine enjoyed higher levels of circulation reaching 700,000 copies. During its lifetime the magazine produced more than 3,000 issues. ''Il Monello'' (meaning ''The Rascal'' in English) was a weekly comic magazine for kids and teens published in Italy from 1933 to 1990. History and profile ''Il Monello'' was founded in 1933 by the Del Duca brothers and initially offered only works by Italian cartoonists, introducing several American comic series just in 1936. The magazine was published weekly and was based in Milan. Considered a mix between ''Corriere dei Piccoli'' and ''Jumbo'', ''Il Monello'' ceased publication in 1939 and many of its interrupted series continued on another Del Duca's magazine for kids, ''Intrepido''. Gianluigi Bonelli
Giovanni Luigi Bonelli (22 December 1908 – 12 January 2001) was an Italian comic book author and publisher, best remembered as the co-creator of ''Tex Willer'' in 1948, together with artist Aurelio Galleppini. Career Bonelli was born in Milan. He founded Casa Audace Editrice, later to be known as Sergio Bonelli Editore, in 1940. In 1948 he created ''Occhio Cupo'' and ''Tex Willer'' (both drawn by Galleppini). ''Tex Willer'' is among the most popular characters of Italian comics, with translations to numerous languages all around the world. He wrote several early episodes of '' Zagor'' (issues #6–10, 13–14). Bonelli remained to supervise the production of Tex until his death in Alessandria. Sergio Bonelli Editore (formerly CEPIM and other names) is a publishing house of Italian comics founded in 1940 by Gian Luigi Bonelli (1908–2001). It takes its name from its former president, comic book writer Sergio Bonelli (1932–2011), son of Gian Luigi. The company popularized the comic book format that became known as ''Bonelliano''. These comic books presented complete stories in 98 black-and-white pages in a pocket book format. The subject matter was always adventure, whether Western, horror, mystery, or science fiction. The ''bonelliani'' are to date the most popular form of comics in Italy. The company was founded as Casa Audace Editrice in 1940. Fleetway Publications
Fleetway Publications was a magazine publishing company based in London. It was founded in 1959 when the Mirror Group acquired the Amalgamated Press, then based at Fleetway House, Farringdon Street, London. It was one of the companies that merged into the IPC group in 1963, and the Fleetway banner continued to be used until 1968 when all IPC's publications were reorganised into the unitary IPC Magazines. In 1987 IPC's comics line was sold to Robert Maxwell as Fleetway Publications. Egmont UK bought Fleetway from Maxwell in 1991, merging it with their own comics publishing operation, London Editions, to form Fleetway Editions, but the name "Fleetway" ceased to appear on their comics some time after 2002. Lambiek
Galerie Lambiek is a Dutch comic book store and art gallery in Amsterdam, founded on November 8, 1968 by Kees Kousemaker (, – Bussum, ), though since 2007, his son Boris Kousemaker is the current owner. From 1968 to 2015, it was located in the Kerkstraat, but in November 2015, the store moved to the Koningsstraat 27. As of 2018, Lambiek is the oldest comics store in Europe, and the oldest worldwide still in existence. The name "Lambiek" originated as a misspelling of the name of the comics character Lambik, from the popular Suske & Wiske comic book series created by Belgian artist Willy Vandersteen.
