Lord Of The Mics
Lord of the Mics (also known as LOTM) is a series of recorded grime clashes, headed by Jammer and Chad ‘Ratty’ Stennett. Each edition of LOTM features grime MC's participating in recorded clashes, where they 'battle' each other over grime instrumentals. Various notable grime artists have participated in Lord of the Mics, such as Skepta, Wiley, Kano, P Money, Big H, and Canadian MC Tre Mission. LOTM was originally launched in 2004. The first clash to be filmed for LOTM, Wiley versus Kano, was filmed in Jammer's basement. The series was originally only published via DVD. LOTM was the first platform that released filmed grime clashes. Clashing is considered to be an important aspect of grime music due to the influence of Jamaican sound clashing. Jammer also credited Smack DVD as an influence, an American hip hop series. Smack helped him realise that grime didn't have anywhere where you could see the face of an MC. Battle Rap
Battle rap (also known as rap battling)Edwards, Paul, 2009, p. 25. is a type of rapping performed between two or more performers that incorporates boasts, insults and wordplay. Battle rap is often performed or freestyled spontaneously in live battles, "where MCs will perform on the same stage to see who has the better verses", although it can also appear on studio albums.Edwards, Paul, 2009, p. 27. Although never a battler himself, battle rap was loosely described by 40 Cal, previously a member of American hip hop collective The Diplomats, in the book ''How to Rap'' (2009) as an "extracurricular" display of skill, comparing it to the dunk contest in the NBA. Crazy Titch
Carl Dobson (born 31 January 1983), better known by his stage name Crazy Titch, is a British grime MC who is now serving a life sentence for murder. Crazy Titch was a successful and well-known grime MC during his active period. Early life and education Dobson was born in Plaistow, East London. As a teenager Dobson spent five years in Feltham Young Offenders' Institute for robbery, handling stolen goods, theft, burglary and criminal damage; On his release in 2003 Dobson turned his attention to grime music. Dobson became estranged from his brother, Durrty Goodz, during his childhood, but they later reconnected and became musical collaborators. Maxsta
Ian Koromah (born 1995), better known by the stage name Maxsta, is an English grime MC from South East London. He is signed Just Jam, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment. A fast-paced, choppy style of delivery has led him to be compared to fellow London rapper Dizzee Rascal. He has worked with Tinie Tempah, Chipmunk, and Wiley. Early life Koromah was born in Lewisham, London, in 1995. His parents had moved from Sierra Leone to avoid its civil war. Raised in Peckham, Koromah's family then moved to East Ham in the borough of Newham. It was here that Koromah attended Langdon School: the same school as Kano attended. Depzman
Joshua Ribera (10 August 1995 – 21 September 2013), performing as Depzman, was a British rapper, considered by some "a leading artist on the UK grime scene." Ribera featured on some of the largest music channels on YouTube that showcase grime music all across the UK, from JDZMedia, P110 and, the largest out of them all, SB.TV. He was stabbed in the heart outside of a Birmingham nightclub by Armani Mitchell. He was 18 years old. Life Ribera was born in Solihull on 10 August 1995, to Alison Cope and Anselm Ribera, who was convicted of murder in 2009. Ribera was of Spanish and Irish descent through his father. Janum Khan, better known by his stage name Jaykae, is a British rapper and actor from Small Heath, Birmingham. Music career Jaykae's start with music began when he started listening to other grime artists from London. In 2017 he released a single, "Every Country," featuring Murkage Dave of the Murkage cartel. The song, produced by Skepta, was Radio 1's Tune of the Week. He has featured on Charlie Sloth's BBC show, ''Fire In The Booth'', where he performed a two piece set which reflected on life and the recent passing of fellow grime artist and friend, Depzman. NoLay, also known as Isabella or Bella Gotti, is a British rapper of Greek-Cypriot and Caribbean background. Career NoLay first officially landed on the UK urban scene as a member of a collective called Unorthodox. Unorthodox released "No Help or Handouts" in 2005, which grabbed the attention of major labels leading to NoLay's first solo release "Unorthodox Daughter". The track was included on Warner imprint label 679 Recordings' ''Run The Road'' compilation (2005) showcasing UK grime and featuring Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, Kano and others. Tayo Jarrett (born 5 April 1986), better known as Scorcher, is a British grime MC, songwriter and actor from Enfield, London. He was previously a member of the grime collective The Movement and is signed to Blue Colla Music. Career 2005–08: Early career He began his career in Cold Blooded where he became known for his "shank" bars, and would regularly attend pirate radio and work his way up through the North London grime circuit. Tyrone Mark Lindo (born 16 November 1985), known by his stage name Big Narstie, is a British MC, author, rapper, singer, songwriter, comedian and television presenter. He started his career in 2002 as a member of grime crew "N Double A," though he is better known for his solo work and as an internet personality performing comedy relating to grime music and the surrounding culture.
