Longwood, Victoria
Longwood is a town in northern Victoria, Australia. The town is located in the Shire of Strathbogie local government area, from the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Longwood had a population of 263. History Longwood was first located on the old Sydney to Melbourne Highway (in the paddocks at Fred Tubb's farm) serving as a staging post for the horse-drawn coaches. The town moved east by around 4 km when the railway was built and a station established at Longwood. The Post Office opened on 1 July 1852 and the office named Longwood Railway Station opened in 1881. Longwood was later renamed Longwood East and Longwood Railway Station was renamed to Longwood. The town and surrounding countryside was the scene of a devastating bushfire on 17 January 1965. Seven people died fleeing the flames in a car. Electoral District Of Euroa
The electoral district of Euroa is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly in Australia. It was created in the redistribution of electoral boundaries in 2013. It was a new district created due to the abolition of the districts of Seymour, Rodney and Benalla, taking in the areas to the north of these districts toward Shepparton. It includes the towns of Benalla, Violet Town, Euroa, Seymour, Heathcote, Nagambie, Rushworth and other towns in the Campaspe, Strathbogie, Benalla and Mitchell local government areas. Longwood Railway Station
Longwood is a closed station located in the town of Longwood, on the North East line, in Victoria, Australia. The station had a single platform on the east side of the former broad gauge line, with the standard gauge line running behind, in a deep cutting, with a pedestrian overpass providing station access. A former passing loop, with the same name, was located nearby. The station opened on 20 November 1872, as the temporary northern terminus of the line. A large goods shed was provided, with a station building erected in 1878. In 1885, a signal cabin was provided on the platform, being incorporated into the station building in 1916, and a crossing loop provided in 1926. Ellis Rowan
Marian Ellis Rowan (30 July 18484 October 1922), known as Ellis Rowan, was a well-known Australian artist and botanical illustrator. She also did a series of illustrations on birds, butterflies and insects. Life Marian, the daughter of Marian and Charles Ryan, principal of stock agents Ryan and Hammond, was born at "Killeen" near Longwood, Victoria, one of her father's pastoral stations in Victoria. Major General Sir Charles Snodgrass Ryan, (20 September 1853 – 23 October 1926) was an Australian surgeon and army officer. Early life Ryan was born at Killeen station, Longwood, Victoria, second son of Charles Ryan, an Irish overlander from New South Wales who founded the stock and station firm of Ryan & Hammond, and his wife Marian, daughter of John Cotton, a British poet, ornithological writer and artist, who became an early pastoral settler in Victoria, Australia. Ryan was educated at the Melbourne Church of England Grammar School, and subsequently at the University of Melbourne, as a student of medicine; afterwards he proceeded to Edinburgh, where he graduated in medicine and surgery, and took the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Master of Surgery. The Victoria Cross (VC) is the highest and most prestigious award of the British honours system. Kyabram & District Football League
The Kyabram District Football League (KDL) is an Australian rules football league in Victoria. It is made up of 15 teams; the most recent additions include Dookie United in 2018 and Shepparton East in 2019. The KDL is made up of smaller country town football clubs in the Goulburn Valley.
